I finally purchased an XS Rack, and am hooking it up to a Motif 7.  My goal at the moment is to try and use the sounds from the XS Rack in the Motif 7 sequencer.  How do I set up the sequencer to use the sounds from the XS Rack??

I’m sure it’s in the manual somewhere, but I can’t find my Motif manual.

Probably sounds like a stupid question.

I’m sure it’s in the manual somewhere, but I can’t find my Motif manual.

All Yamaha manuals are available for free download ... You can goggle: Yamaha Manual Library

Each TRACK of the Motif sequencer can be routed to the internal Motif and/or an external tone generator as you require. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Motif classic, but

On the main SONG or PATTERN screen press [F3] OUTPUT to set the PORT and CHANNEL.

What exactly would I set them to?  I’ve tried pretty much every combination but I’m not getting anywhere.

I actually can’t even get the rack sounds to play through the classic.  I use headphones so I don’t disturb the household, and they will play if the phones are plugged into the rack, but not the classic.  I’ve never used any MIDI before, so I’m completely new to all of this.  Just would like to use the rack sounds in the sequencer.

Plug the headphones into the rack.  Midi transmit data not sound.  In your situation the motif classic sequencer is triggering sounds from the xs rack tone generator.  Not sure if the motif classic has an input section on the back like the xs and XF does ....but if it did all you would need to do is route the audio from your rack into the motif classic and then you could hear sounds from both units at the same time.

I hope this helps.

Maybe I’m being completely stupid, or maybe I juat don’t get it.  I have a song that’s already done.  I just want to change some of the sounds i was using from the classic to some of the sounds from the rack before I sample it to a wav file.  I’m using tracks 1 thru 4.
