See (2) XA Control on pages 112-113 of the XS Owner’s Manual.

If you don’t have the manual, a PDF copy of it can be downloaded here.

“normal
When this is selected, the Element will sound normally each time you press the note.
all AF off
When this is selected, the Element will sound when both of the
ASSIGNABLE FUNCTION buttons are turned off.”

This explanation makes no sense to me because when both of the assignable function buttons are turned off, element goes back to default state, normal state, right? Can “all AF off” and “normal” state be different sounds? Or is “all AF off” some kind of “note off” event for AF buttons that triggers those sounds?

thanks

When XA Control is set to “normal”, the associated Element will always sound, no matter if either or both of the AF buttons are ON(lit) or OFF(not lit).

When XA Control is set to “all AF off”, the associated Element will only sound if both of the AF buttons are OFF. If either of the AF buttons is ON, the Element won’t sound.

While XA Control “all AF off” can be used to change the sound by silencing an Element when an AF button is ON, it’s often used along with another Element being set to “AF 1 on” or “AF 2 on”. Used that way, activating an AF button can cause the sound from one Element to be replaced by that of another.
