Can I set an XS rack to globally ignore the GM setup commands at the beginning of a GM file?

Typically, in a properly prepared GM file the “setup” data is contained in MEASUE 001 of the file. Music messages begin at the top of Measure 002. You can simply remove Measure 001.

Since the “setup” messages can include the System Exclusive GM RESET command, System Exclusive messages addressing GM required hardware, Control Change messages for setting of VOLUME, PAN poisiton, tuning, PB range, etc., etc., etc and Program Changes, you could turn the reception of thesee OFF in the Motif-Rack XS (this would be like throwing out the baby with the bath water, however). You will need these to control and apply your own changes.

Below is a link to a short article, which will point out what typically goes into GM SETUP Measure. By removing the GM RESET command itself, you can then change and apply the BANK SELECT and PROGRAM CHANGE data to select the items that you want to select. At any rate it will give you a very good idea of what all that SETUP data is doing. You can simply EDIT that setup BAR or remove the entire measure and use the Motif-Rack’s ability to STORE your MULTI setup data in the hardware.
