Hi , So here is how it is..... I had a silver yamaha psr e-413 and upgraded to yamaha motif xf6 on my birthday(yes big leap i know). About the Motif XF6 , truly great keyboard no doubt. But here is the problem, during my purchase i first had tried yamaha motif xs6. And before i could even play it i fell in love with the keyboard! why ?? because 1)the mint green(or blue-ish) color had a profound sublime impact on me,
2)that logo on the left corner (which looks like infinity symbol) caught my attention , and belive me i have always been a fan of the symbol of infinity!
I finally went for the motif xf6 first because it was new , had flash , and would have a good re-sale value if in case i sold it, addition of natural grand s6 piano, and almost twice the waveforms. Now i have the motif xf6 and done some quiet good compositions esp in the pattern mode (my fav for trance and other things). I am particularly very sensitive to colors.... and no matter how much one prefers to deny it black is known to absorb be it light , energy etc.....its a color i would choose for anything but for creativity or inspiration. Its as if when i struck with a great idea the moment i come and play it half the enthusiasm is gone result being uninspirational.
the Motif xs(mint blueish green) the psychology of this color is in one word “ instant outburst of creativity and inspiration”
SO HERE IS WHAT I WANT TO ASK.Is their any possible way to just get/order/buy the outer template(skin) of the motif xs , i am willing to pay for it . Is it in anyways availalbe from yamaha or keyfax? Because if i understand properly the our material of an Motif xs6 properly fits an xf6. It something that i truly wish to have… Please feel free to comment about this topic , if any chance for getting the motif xs skin then do advise. I know some of you would say its the instrument and the skill that matter not the color or are you out of your mind black is so cool and sexy and what not...one who ones both the xf and xs and could recall that first time experiance of unboxing and playing the two.. its just like white and black i phones some just cannot have black.....

That greenish color is hard to describe - but sub-"lime" doesn’t seem to capture it.
Apparently the XF’s designers are Rolling Stones fans. ;-)
Here you go:
Studio Connections description
From reading another of your posts, apparently you have an XF6. The Control Panel for the XS6 is part number WG981300, and is available for $238.99(US) plus shipping costs. With some effort, you could disassemble the XF6 and transfer the boards and LCD display to the XS6 panel. Of course, since there are differences besides color between the XS and XF, such a switch would have some consequences. Panel button labeling won’t be accurate, since the XF has a USER 4 bank, causing all the buttons from that position and to the right to be incorrectly marked, etc. For that reason, and others which I won’t bother mentioning, I wouldn’t suggest what you’re proposing to do.
Besides, your XF might get insulted by having to wear an XS’s “coat”, and “forget” all the features it has beyond that of an XS. ;-)
To each his own… I do own both an XS and XF. First usage of the XS was definitely more captivating than that of the XF - but I don’t attribute it to color! By the time I got the XF, it just wasn’t nearly as much of a departure from my previous keys as the XS was.
We now return you to your previously scheduled forum...

Here’s what I’d do. If you can get the outer case off (and just the case) look around for a good auto body paint shop.I mean, with that approach, ANY color is possible. (I’d choose Viper Blue myself). They could clear coat it too. Just need to let them know what kind of material they are dealing with. I’ll assume the XF case is plastic. Have fun. G.P. |

Here in the US we would just drive it down to Maaco. |

Unless the lettering is carefully masked first, repainting might make for an “interesting” experience… “Where is that GM DR button?” :-) ...but masking would still leave some black. The XF’s Control Panel is steel, by the way, as is the bottom cover. The side covers and end blocks are plastic. I wasn’t happy with a factory XF color choice either - the display’s RED. My eyes were much relieved when I set it to yellow. :-) |

I’m impressed that you were able to say that with a “straight face” (no smiley). |

If there was a choice, I would have definitely preferred an XF with the XS colors. Mobile phones and laptops have already started giving you color choices. Who knows in the future even keyboards might follow suit and offer you a choice of skins :-) |

Yes VikasSharma, but you and I both know if Yamaha offered a Motif with 16 “Skin” options, somebody would lament the next day that it wasn’t 32. |

Fascinating topic! Over the years I’ve owned many keyboards and the most interesting visually have been those that are not black. Some of my favorites were a dark blue Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolver, a red Nord Modular, a wood grain Yamaha CP-20 (my very first keyboard), a light wood grain Hohner D6 Clavinet, a Hammond M2 I refinished in white, and the most striking color ever - a bright yellow Waldorf Q. I think if I could choose to refinish my XF in any color, I’d go with a light orange case with black labels. Anyway, I’ve done some things to customize and brighten up my XF from a visual standpoint. I printed a couple stickers with my band logo and name on high quality bumper-sticker laser paper, then covered them in self laminate sheets so it’s nice and glossy, then put them on my XF...see below… Image Attachments

My main problem with the black XF is the lack of contrast between the buttons and the backgrounds. I find it much easier to navigate on the MOX with its lighter gray buttons on the darker background, especially in sub-optimal light conditions, which of course, is sometimes something you have to deal with on stage. Black on black is really the worst possible combination in that respect.
That’s another great example. The standard black M50 has the black on black problem, I would definitely have gone for one of the colored options, Unfortunately, they only made the colors available on the 61, and I needed to get the 73. 61 is just not enough for someone who plays LH bass. (And I prefer to play bass on my 2nd-tier unweighted board, rather than my 88 on bottom, because splitting an 88 for LH bass leaves me only about 57 keys for piano, which is too little.) Anyway, yeah, the 61-key M50 came in yellow, red, green, and blue for a while. I’d take any of them over the black, just for operational ease. http://www.korg.co.uk/images/products/workstations/m50/M50_colours_lrg.jpg |

Great topic! The Psychology of color! I agree, I have an XS-8 and love the mint green. The XS has been a terrific source of inspiration for many years. I would love to have an XF but I’m gonna wait and see what’s around the corner from Yamaha. |
