I will, your description makes it sound very worthy of consideration.
I agree, I think seeing how others solve our in-common live performance and studio setup ‘problems’ is very valuable, and photos are a powerful medium. BTW, I am still planning to post photos of my near-field monitor setup, I think it will start the gears rolling for those facing stage-sound issues. I just need to find the time to open up my stage piano to take the pictures, which is required to fully document how it was done. |

Hi cmayhle,
Forget watch bands, this guy uses magnet implants to carry his iPod nano While we’ve seen several watch bands and other accessories made to ensure your iPod nano is with you at all times, we’ve never seen anything like this. Dave Hurban, of Newfield New Jersey carries his iPod with him via magnets in his arm. That’s right, this Dynasty Tattoo tattoo artist implanted four powerful magnets into his left arm to hold his late-generation iPod nano in place… While we have to admit the end-result is sort of cool-looking, we can’t imagine that surgically installing foreign objects into your wrist is a good idea. Not to mention, as a lot of other sites have pointed out, what is Hurban going to do if Apple changes the Nano’s design next time around? Chas Image Attachments

This guy should definitely stay away from the Shanghai Maglev Train. I’d hate to see him trying to wrench his magnetic arm off the tracks with this thing whizzing toward him… |

VikasSharma, I finally got the opportunity to open up my gear and take some photos of this set-up. I am posting these to give you and anyone else interested the benefit of the process I went through to solve typical live-performance monitoring issues. This configuration uses a dove-tail system that allows only a very small and low-profile piece to be permanently attached to the keyboard it is mounted on. Since almost all keyboards are constructed in a similar fashion (Heavy baseboard and attached case) this could be adapted to most any board. The most important thing is to attach these mounts directly to the bed-board and not the case, as they must be strong and rock-solid to carry the loads and maintain long-term durability. The permanently attached portion of the dove-tail bracket is thru-bolted to the bed board of my stage piano, and does not interfere in any way with putting the board into it’s road case. The satellite powered speakers (Whether you use the Behringers and save $100 per speaker, or choose the Mackies) only weigh about 7.5lbs each. The vertical short mike-poles are standard 6” desk-mike tubes/bases that are attached to the removable bracket piece. This is a very compact set-up. It works extremely well in a wide variety of room sizes, and is quite economical. The presence, clarity, and volume capability of the output are excellent. Since these monitors lack any ability to reproduce usable low-end signals, I happen to run my main sub-board stereo outs through my 15” Roland cab (At my feet) before sending it on to the house board. The signal could alternatively be sent to a small keyboard-dedicated subwoofer...sitting at your feet...to get full range bass response. As I mentioned in the earlier post, the vocal/other-instrument monitor feed is able to be brought back directly to a separate channel of these speakers (Due to their ability to mix signals)...and since this monitor feed goes directly into these units (And not through my keyboard mixer) the signal is not looped, and I can control the vocal level independently directly from the left and right monitor face panel controls. This set-up really has been a fantastic monitor solution for me, and allows me to send stereo feeds to both the FOH board and my own personal pair of speakers (The vocal monitor return signal is mono, and just gets split with a ‘Y’ and sent to each speaker). I hope this is helpful in giving ideas for solving ever-present live-performance monitoring issues. Image Attachments

Something else to consider: Find an old organ case and chop it.I have an old Hammond A 100 case that was gutted,I’m going to use 3/4 plywood to make a shelf for the lower and upper keyboard.Since I have a friend who is an excellent wood-guy,I may have him fabricate a top and side handles a la’ Hammond B3 appearance and have some threaded pipe for screw in legs. With any luck,I can secure it as a reasonable travel case for around town and prewire for A/C outlets as well as audio.Plug and play is the goal. With an XS or XF and Hammond SK1-it should be less than 100 lbs. There’s a guy on You-tube “Black Hammond “ with a post called SK2/a100 where he put the 2 keyboard version in an old case complete with power amp spkrs. I’ve yet to find any travel stand that doesn’t bounce like crazy. |

Hi docjohn,
NAMM Photos Shot by Trond Braaten of Ham-Berger Playing at Hammond Suzuki USA Stand Jon Hammond and Joe Berger aka Ham-Berger performing at Winter NAMM in Hammond Suzuki USA Stand Jon Hammond is playing the Pro XK System Organ Like the XK-Traditional, The XK-Professional System allows our single manual organ models XK-3 or XK-3c to be converted to a double-manual console-style organ without any modifications to the XK-3 or XK-3c. Photo by Trond Braaten - Jon Hammond at Pro XK System organ It’s great that you can start with an XF-3 and add on later… Chas Image Attachments

Yes docjohn, right off the shelf that is true. However, with a couple of well-placed stiffeners you can certainly change that. Take a look at my second set of photos on the first page of this thread. Those 1” hardwood dowels turn an inherently bouncy “X” stand into (2) very rigid triangulated trusses. The stand is now extremely stiff and rigid, even with 130 lbs of keyboards on it, and because the dowels pop out, the stand folds and packs the same as always. |

Brilliant, cmayhle! Very nice, indeed. Thanks for posting. What’s the thing attached on top of the Motif? Is it some LED light fixture or some kind of a Mic?

VikasSharma, that is an LED light I fabricated to help to view the upper keyboard in sketchy-to-nonexistant stage lighting situations. In THIS thread, you and 5pinDIN were discussing using the XF USB device port for power to various pieces of gear. 5pinDIN provided a link to a very economical low-draw USB-powered goose-neck light. I ordered this light, added an old plastic pill bottle, a USB elbow, a USB 6” cable, and a 3” diameter plastic disk from TAP plastics. With the help of some plastic adhesive and some epoxy putty, along with (4) small rare-earth magnets, I was able to put together this nice little light to stick to the top of my XF and aid in selecting important settings in dim or dark rooms. Casting the whole assembly in epoxy putty makes it absolutely rock solid (We all know how loosey-goosey USB connectors are). The whole fixture cost under $10 to put together, and that includes shipping for the parts. Image Attachments

No interest in patents VikasSharma. Any ideas or designs I come up with are for the free benefit of my comrades-in-keyboards! |

Hi,
But the similarities are strangely reminiscent. Chas |
