[size=4]I play the Akai EWI 4000s and Matt Traum of Patchman Music has programmed three wind controller sound banks for the Yamaha XS. These are modifications to existing voices:

“We have gone through the entire wave ROM, chosen all of the appropriate sounds that a wind controller player could utilize, and then programmed responsive breath controlled patches for each.”

The question is, can they be loaded into the MOX6 user banks and would they work as with the XS? That would make it an excellent synth for EWI players looking for additional sounds, with all the accompaniment features of the MOX

Thanks

Jim

I will attempt to get in touch with Matt, in theory, he can make those Voices available for the MOX. It is a matter of does he have plans to do that. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Hi Jim,

A couple of clarifications regarding the three new wind controller soundbanks recently released for the Motif XS series from Patchman Music:

- These 384 voices are not “modifications to existing voices”. They are all new creations from Patchman Music. What we actually did was go through the wave ROM and choose appropriate samples to build all the new wind controller / breath controller patches upon. Everything that worked well in this context was included in this large library. We included all the variations that are possible as enabled via the wonderful and massive Yamaha wave ROM. You will see these variations in the patch listing on our website. Sometimes the differences are subtle but we didn’t want to make the decision for you. So we included everything and let you decide. This programming process took approximately two years!

- We are in touch with Yamaha and are looking into the reality of releasing MOX versions. We think a MOX specific version is a very strong possibility and hope to make this happen in the very near future. Keep an eye on our website for updates…

- Folks should keep in mind that these new sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper use. Without such a device, it would be equivalent to holding a sax in your hand and not blowing into it. I suppose a MIDI pedal or assignable knob could be used and set to send breath controller data but this is not ideal.

If you are curious how expressive the Motif can be, be sure to listen to our Volume 1 mp3 audio demo at the above link! More demos will be added shortly for the other two soundbanks.

Thanks for your interest,

Matt

Hi guys.  Please excuse my ignorance - I just recently ordered an EWI4000s and have not considered expanding any synths for a wind controller prior to this moment.  I have a Motif XF7 - are the XS libraries somehow compatible with that, or would that require an entirely different library like the MOX stuff that was discussed above?

Matt, any news on whether the MOX and/or XF (what I’m really waiting on) versions are underway?  Or are they still just something that might happen eventually?
