I was actually asking about the computer OS version only. Sorry for not having clarified that earlier. I think the OS version of your Motif should not be the cause of your problem here but, as Redhotpoker pointed out, you should upgrade to the latest XF OS version to take advantage of the new features and/or bug-fixes. That said, the Editor version that works with Studio Manager is MOTIF XF Editor V1.4.0 and not MOTIF XF Editor VST V1.5.1 that I suppose you’ve downloaded. Also, installing the MOTIF XF Extension V1.1.0 would not be of any use if you’re not planning to use some version of Cubase. So, download and install the correct Editor software and let us know. |

Hi Nefti,
I used to rely on getting my updates and downloads from, http://www.yamahasynth.com. but that website has been stripped of its valuable content. So anyway, I’m unfamiliar with the setting up of cubase studio manager.
Keep your chin up, all will be revealed very shortly. Chas |

It’s up to you to keep it or return it. All I can tell you is that it is not required for MIDI communication between your XF and your computer. In fact, a direct USB connection is far better option than connecting through UX16 USB-MIBI interface cable. |

@VikasSharma Your right as soon as i downloaded and installed the 1.4.0 version it worked. Everything as of right now is working correctly when i pick a sound on the keyboard it automatically shows it on cubase which is sick. I like that. I put 8 tracks of midi just like they said so now im trying to figure out how i can record each track. I can hear the noise just fine threw my headphones. When i record it doesnt record on cubase with my notes. When i updated the motif it erased my project but i kinda got it memorized a bit so i want to start this using the both cubase and the motif. First thing i would like to do is start off with Pattern A. I picked my sound, I have a midi track set up....What would be the next step? Not familiar with these DAWs. Cubase has always been one DAW i’ve been wanting to try out. Thanks for all the help you’ve giving me I really appreciate it. Without ya’ll i would have never known none of this. @Redhopoker I finally got it to work and i did read everything i had gotten everything right i just didnt know i had to press the utility button n the curser button before turning it on. I appreciate all the help you’ve given me so far. |

Well i created a Audio track, Put the Audio in record, Put the Midi in record, Player In Record Then i recorded from the motif and everything showed up on Cubase just how i wanted it show! The notes came up on cubase as well. Now if i edit the notes on cubase will it edit them on my motif too?? Thanks for all the help you guys have given me i really appreciate it! You all just saved me from a big headache. Im glad i came into this forum. Thank you all again for the help. Also is there a way where i can just use the play/record button on my motif n control cubase’s play/record? And how can i set this motif back to its original way so i can play the keyboard without using the Mac? I tried too but now i get no sounds from it. Again sorry for the questions… |

Hi Nefti,
In this case, three lefts don’t make it go right… Thankfully Phil was kind enough to step in and put things right for you. Those Readme files are the very first thing we should be concerned about, aside from saving an All file to protect the voice, wav files, patterns and other data we we don’t want to lose. I think you are now all setup pretty much, to start digging in deeper and getting more familiar with your workstation.
Just take your time, read the manuals. The Support sections of the Forum are full of great tutorials and info. As well, don’t be shy about using the handy Search function here too. You’ll be surprised where those search’s can save much time and instead of waiting for answers from others, try looking to see if your questions have already been addressed, sometimes over and over, but you know, repetition helps us learn faster too.
The “how-to videos” that are available for purchase here, are also great resources and well worth their price’s of admission. Have fun, but keep at it, because with your obvious determination, I believe you’ll do just fine, and far beyond. Chas |

@Redhotpoker Thanks again for the help. I just got to figure out how to put the motif back to normal so i can play it without the using it on cubase. How do i register my cubase ai5 it came with? I registered on the site do i need one of these USB that pro tools have? Everytime i open up cubase it says i got until april 2, 2012 or 2990 times to open it… |

Hi Nefti,
That’s pretty easy to accomplish, but you’d want to save an All file, as anything you want to keep will be lost as the Factory Set means just that...:
Sorry, I don’t use Cubase Al5, or anything else but my Motif XF8

It’s not exactly clear what you mean by “back to normal”, but perhaps this might help:

Hi Nefti,
Don’t be afraid to experiment with those functions, as you can always put things back with Factory Set, if need be, as you are now well aware. Keep up the great learning curve, & you’ll be answering others questions here, in the very near future. keep at it… Chas |

@Redhotpoker yeah everything here is completely new to me. Makin a beat how would I make the hi hats faster? Is that where the apreggio comes in? Also if I was to use the motif in pro tools would it work the same as using it in cubase? As far as recording midi and audio? |
