I just got one of these adapters on-line from Walmart.com.
It works like a champ! I’ve attached a picture in case anyone wants to see what it looks like.
If you want to use the i-Pad with the Motif XF and go wireless I’d suggest getting this adapter.
I’ve been wary of recommending the wireless thing to every MOTIF XF user because it’s not like you can just go to the corner store and buy any USB network adapter and expect it to work.

There are a handful or tested ones:
Buffalo WLI-UC-GNHP
WLI-UC-GNM
Edimax EW-7711UAn
Hawking HWUN3
LogiLink WL0049A or WL0054
Tenda W311U

Mine is the third one on the list.  The fact that I found it on walmart.com means most people should be able to get it and quickly.

Just thought I’d pass it on.

Have you tried streaming audio to the Motif?  The Tenda, Hawking and Buffalo adapters above are experiencing errors following the OS 1.3 release.  This has been previously reported in some detail here recently.

I just bought the same one from Walmart.  1/2 the price of Amazon which is crazy in itself.

Does anyone know if this will work with the MOX? (im aware that this is the XF section) after all, its just a usb protocol, and interfaces with a similarly constructed driver (ie non compliant usb audio device etc).

i ask this because this would annihilate ground loop issues caused by usb connections with grounded computers.

i tried to use a usb-ethernet-usb adaptor set, however the drivers were very generic and i got BSOD’s every time i tried to communicate with the MOX.... so its really just a driver interaction thing. (note that it saw the mox correctly..)

any help/tangeable testing results with the MOX would be VERY appreciated.

It will not work with the MOX - the MOX has no wireless capability, at all.

Ah. I am not overly familiar with the feature set of the xf. I thought your device may have been a usb-wirless-usb transmitter-reciever arrangement(ie like the usb ethernet usb decice), rather than just recieving a wireless output that was already being generated by the xf.

Not sure...we never heard back from Tones and BM on the matter.  Usually that means that there is some issue with the new OS which some users (those that actually need those functions to work) might call a bug.  Our studio conducted numerous tests and the results were the same: old OS = no wireless issues; new OS = wireless issues.  Hopefully somebody is addressing this issue and a fix is forthcoming.

But technically specking wouldn’t just about any usb wifi adapter work even if it isn’t on Yamaha’s list.

I say this because none of the ones Yamaha list are easily available from the store . They all seemed to have to be ordered online .

Usually means nothing of the kind…

I was giving you guys the benefit of the doubt; the alternative being complacency and indifference.  Of course for some the two aren’t mutually exclusive but, either way, we have verified this “issue” on 4 different XFs with 3 different adapters.

Were there ever any findings in regards to 100% functionality with the above wireless adapters?
Seems if Tones (Tony) left us hangin’…
Or can anyone post their experience with adaptors that they have/used that work with OS 1.50?

Thanks in advance!

Compatible USB Device List for MOTIF XS/XF as of March 2015:

There are still no guarantees, since manufacturers sometimes change designs without changing the model number.

Thank you sir, your direction is much appreciated!

I’ve learned that Yamaha also has its own model UD-WL01, but can’t find it for sale anywhere? Hmm…
I kinda thought there would be more people using these with the yamaha iPad apps etc. and there would be more discussion on which ones were working well…
Guess I’m gonna hold out until I get more clarification on said product from someone who’s been using one for a while and can vouch for its compatibility.

Thanks again 5pinDIN!
