I’m facing with a difficult choice: removing or not removing the protective film that covers Motif XF’s display.

I’d like to preserve the display integrity from scratches and dirt, but I fear that the display temperature might stick the film.

On the other hand I’m sure that if I remove the protective film, the display will have a shorter life.

Are there third party protective and removable film avaliable?

thanks
dp7 - Michael

Hi digitalperformer7,
I removed that film from my Motif XF8 straight away.
It’s easy to keep the Motif XF hd screen clean, just carefully wipe using a very lightly-damp dust free micro fibre cloth.

That plastic film doesn’t protect much. Just wash your hands before you play and keep the area clean with a weekly vacuum.
If you don’t want to get it ‘used’, leave her in the box and never bring her out. It will forever be brand new. Case Closed.

I know some folks are even guilty of leaving the plastic shipping covers on their new livingroom furniture. Tacky!!

One guy I know even has his guitar amp wrapped/taped in a green garbage bag, with his ear cups of his headphones also adorned with some sort of plastic wrap. Hey you could Saran wrapp your eye glasses too.

There was similar protective film on the hd screen of my DTX-Multi 12 too. Gone!!

Enjoy your Motif, the’re built tuff e nuff…

Chas

I think you can just remove the film and then use a slightly damped microfiber cloth to clean the screen whenever needed. And removing the film will not affect the life of the display.

PS: Chas posted while I was typing :-)

Please remove the protective plastic from your screen, it is the equivalent of leaving the styrofoam packing material on the ends of the keyboard. It is to protect the screen from random dust from piling up on the screen as it travels through the factory and half-way round the world to wherever you live!. Not much can hurt the glass in terms of scratches unless you scratch it with a diamond. That’s GLASS (google it, it’s tough stuff. Things that will break it (shorten its life) will not be prevented by that thin plastic film (a BRICK for example, that plastic doesn’t really protect it from a brick!!!! )

Your Big screen TV comes with a protective film - you wouldn’t watch it with that on there. Please I do not want to have to call the Yamaha-police - who will come and confiscate your Motif XF and give it to someone who is going to really enjoy it. If you leave that plastic on there one day it may melt and become a permanent part of your unit. (lol) Leaving it on will shorten the life more than peeling it off, and that’s a FACT!!!!

If you don’t peel it off, I will notify the repo team !!! they will come and take your XF away!

:-)

There is a really funny story that the ‘support’ folks tell about a customer and that protective plastic film, but I’ll leave that one for the book… :-)

Hey VikasSharma, when you buy that book, please check if there is a chapter in there regarding the bug in OS 1.3 rendering streaming audio via WiFi adapters useless.  Hopefully that issue will get addressed before the movie version comes out.  ;-)

LOL ... epic.

Its not a touch screen, so pressing your fingers and thumbs on it won’t have much functional utility.  Really shouldn’t be getting finger prints on it unless curiosity is getting the best of you.  Mine has a little dust, I call it character.  I’m not as finicky, er fastidious, as some though.

BM is always right.  Take the film off, playing a Motif with the screen protector film still on its like going to grandma’s house and having to sit on a couch wrapped in protective plastic.

I did not know that. Since BM has spoken, I will remove it from mine when I get home tonight. I’ve still kept mine on since January 2011 when I bought it.

Good, I’m glad you can laugh - I just felt if I added some humor here, you would get the point. You’ll find you can see the screen alot better now, too!

Thank goodness you got THAT sorted out!
Now we can move on to more important issues like ...transposing zones in a performance more than two octaves! (without having to make a new voice...how about “Performance Voices”, like Mix Voices that are specific to a song,
and my all time favorite, changing sounds without the voice cutting out.
how long before the Motif XG? XT? XXX?

First, thank you for being such a loyal Yamaha customer. Of course, *your* particular issues are more important so lets help you get over some of them..
:-) hope you’re ready!

Now we can move on to more important issues like ...transposing zones in a performance more than two octaves!

We are sure you mean NOTE SHIFT, not Transpose… after owning all these Yamaha products you should know that TRANSPOSE has to do with the keyboard SENDING data, and NOTE SHIFT has to do with the tone engine RECEIVING data.

(without having to make a new voice…

Oh you know the solution but you have YOUR OWN criteria for HOW it should be done. You want to play the TUBA in the top octave of the keyboard, or the piccolo in the bottom octave… there is really nothing wrong with this request. Truly there is not - there are good reasons for your request (don’t get us wrong),

Our only issue with it is that when you ask for a pinstripe suit with the stripes going horizontal don’t be surprised if you are in the minority with your request. My point being - the two octave NOTE SHIFT you are given - and that will be good enough for most. If you want more, the solution is simple: you make a VOICE yourself… it is the solution - sorry if you don’t like it. But make the VOICE, name it and store it --- you can name them “Piccolo range Tuba” and “Tuba range Piccolo”.

If you need help with making a new VOICE - we can help you with that…

how about “Performance Voices”, like Mix Voices that are specific to a song,

Ok and where should these be stored? Oh, I know, in a special bank, accessible to this PERFORMANCE… uh… that’s called the USER Banks… but you know all of this. You just want to get in the book… :-)

and my all time favorite, changing sounds without the voice cutting out.
how long before the Motif XG? XT? XXX?

All of the Yamaha’s you owned have the same solution for the “changing sounds without the voice cutting out” - it’s time you learned how that worked :-)

No really. Oh, that’s right, you want your own SOLUTION to this all time favorite… fine. but you do know how to switch between sounds without the sounds cutting out, don’t you? Let us know… we can help you with that, too.

:-)
