I have questions:
1. What is the difference in the LOAD mode and SAVE the right of the screen is set to USR: Opportunities USR/FL1/FL2?
2. Not looking at the cost - whether it is better in practice to have Flash 2x512MB or 1x1024MB?

1) The LOAD options found on the lower right of the [FILE] screen allow you direct what data gets loaded where. When you have a Motif XF file that contains sampled audio data, saved in that file is the documentation of the XF at the time the FILE was made. In other words, if you had user samples in SDRAM (called USR) or had samples on one of your two FLASH Boards (FL1 / FL2) - the data in the file will document where each sample was and what Voices are referencing the sampled data.

This way when you load the file back it can return your data EXACTLY as you had it. Or you can redirect it from where it was originally to a different destination

The LOAD options found on the lower righ allow you to direct what data gets loaded where. If you have data that was originally in SDRAM (USR) and you would like to install it on your FLASH board - these load options give you an opportunity to do that. You can see that there are options for loading “without sample” - this is used when the sampled audio is already in place so no need to WAIT for it to install again.

Every possible combination of redirecting the data is provided by these options. They will make more sense once you have FLASH BOARDS.

2) It is better practice to purchase one FL1024M versus 2 x FL512M
Reason: If you find that you really like having the FLASH to carry your additional and custom Waveforms, and you wish to expand your XF farther, you can. If you purchase 2 x FL512M, and you decide you want to expand, you will need to giveaway or sell one of your FL512M to get a FL1024M.

There’s no performance advantage to splitting your samples across two boards.

The cost of two 512 boards is the same as a single 1024...at least in the USA...so why fill both slots with the 512? If you decide to upgrade to a 1024 later, one or both 512s become redundant.

I bought a 1024, I would only recommend the 512 to someone who doesn’t anticipate storing a lot of samples and is on a tight budget.  I’ve already filled mine to 60%, a 512 would have been too small.

Everything you need to know about loading and saving data on the XF is explained in this downloadable video, “XF Fully Loaded”, available here:
