So I finally picked up the XF8, been wanting it for a long time… currently in the process of setting up my first home studio. So I’ll run you through my predicament and hopefully someone here with some expertise can help me out as this is the first time I’ve ever tried setting up hardware outside of just using a DAW and VSTI’s. Build PC, USB 2.0 and 3.0 in’s out’s Studio monitors - pair of Yamaha HS80 USB Audio interface - UR28M, Below is a link to a picture off the steinberg website that shows all of the IN’s and OUT’s http://www.steinberg.net/index.php?eID=tx_cms_showpic&file=uploads/pics/UR28M_setup_14x11_mp_01.png&md5=292bad420c180b51deaac236a9d850535e22e5b1¶meters;[0]=YTo0OntzOjU6IndpZHRoIjtzOjQ6IjgwMG0iO3M6NjoiaGVpZ2h0IjtzOjQ6IjYw¶meters;[1]=MG0iO3M6NzoiYm9keVRhZyI7czo0MToiPGJvZHkgc3R5bGU9Im1hcmdpbjowOyBi¶meters;[2]=YWNrZ3JvdW5kOiNmZmY7Ij4iO3M6NDoid3JhcCI7czozNzoiPGEgaHJlZj0iamF2¶meters;[3]=YXNjcmlwdDpjbG9zZSgpOyI+IHwgPC9hPiI7fQ== and incase that doesn’t work here is the site and if you scroll to the bottom right is an image with all the in’s out’s on the UR28m http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/hardware/ur_series/ur28m.html Now currently I’m running my hs80m’s into the UR28m audio interface with 1/4” cables, and then the UR28m to my PC via USB2.0 my needs for the XF8 are to be able to use it as a MIDI controller inside my DAW (from my understanding this is accomplished via the USB out from the XF8 directly into my PC) AND To be able to record the XF8 onto my DAW through my UR28m audio interface AND be able to leave my XF8 hooked up to my UR28m to be able to play the XF8 via my HS80’s. I’m good on the first part, I’ve just never used an analog synth before and I *JUST* set up the UR28M today and just built my PC yesterday.... I consulted both manuals but found no definitive answer (UR28m is a hella brief manual, and the XF8 manual seems really convoluted and lengthy with no concrete answers that I can find) If anyone can help me figure out which cables I need and how to rig this up I would appreciate it like no tomorrow!!! Anyways cheers and thanks :D |

Connect your Motif XF to the UR28m by using a SPDIF Coaxial cable. This way you’ll hear it through your Yamaha monitors.
Also, connect your Motif XF to your PC with a USB cable, by using the port TO HOST. This way you’ll be able to:
