Hello,

does anybody use the Cakewalk A-800 pro to controll the XS Rack???

cause i´m looking for a masterkeyboard with 61 keys (better 76 keys), 8-9 Faders, some knobs and some buttons (Voice & Multi change) BUT it should be very light(4-7kg).

is it possible to use the faders for setting the volume for every Multipart???

best regards
Bernd

Hello Bernd,

yes, I use the A-800PRO. It’s a good masterkeyboard, I use it as a second manual for my MOTIF XF 7. Maybe a balanced keyboard would be better for me, because I often play the piano - but the XF 7 is ok for that. And as a 2nd board it’s fine.
To ask your question: I only use it as a keyboard not as a controller for the XF. But I tried it with Logic and I could control the volume faders of Logic with it. Currently I’m not able to check that on the XF because the A800 is in our rehearsal room at the moment. I think it should be possible to control the faders in your XS Rack.
Here’s the manual, if it may help you: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=1096&ParentId=19
Also check the Control Map Guide.

Regards, Matt

I do not have the Cakewalk A-800, but I do have the Cakewalk A-300PRO by Roland. As far as I know, these two are identical controllers except for the difference in number of keys.

I can tell you that this is a very capable MIDI controller keyboard with the following 44 fully customizable controllers:

- 9 Knobs
- 9 Faders/Sliders
The 9 Knobs and 9 Sliders have a Virtual Center Click option for easy Center Value transmission.

- 9 Buttons
- 8 Velocity-sensitive Pads (with Aftertouch set to Off/Channel Pressure/Polyphonic Key Pressure)
- 4 Buttons
All the Buttons/Pads can be set to Momentary, Latch or Inc/Dec mode.

- Keyboard Channel Aftertouch
- Hold Pedal Input
- Expression Pedal Input
- Pitch Bender
- Modulation Lever

Any of the above controllers can be individually programmed with the help of the A-PRO Editor to send custom Channel, SysEx or System Realtime Messages as per your requirement.

If you’re comfortable with MIDI programming, you can create a custom Control Map to control any aspect of your Motif through MIDI.
