Hi Is it possible to use a performance as one of the 16 tracks in song mode… I’m trying to set up a controller to play a performance from the xs while I use the local keyboard to play a different performance in the xs..

Thanks

Actually you can record yourself playing a PERFORMANCE to one track of the Motif XS sequencer, if you record it as AUDIO. Remember any of the 16 tracks can be designated as MIDI or as MIDI that triggers an audio sample.

A PERFORMANCE can occupy as many as four PARTS, so recording it could take as many as four PARTS - if you record it as MIDI data.

You can COPY the PERFORMANCE to the MIXING setup (so you can play it live - all fourPARTS on the same MIDI Channel.
As you probably know you cannot record it as MIDI data (all at once) once you COPY it to MIXING… but you can record it as AUDIO!!!

If you setup to RESAMPLE using the “sample+note” Type - the result will allow you to place the audio clip in a SAMPLE VOICE assigned to a single PART.

Then once you complete the recording you must reassign the VOICES and the ARPEGGIATORS as necessary. Remember you can only have four ARPEGGIOS going simultaneously… but once you record the first PERFORMANCE as audio, you will only need 1 PART (containing your SAMPLE VOICE) for the RESAMPLE and you have freed all the arpeggiators for additional use.

You will be locked to the tempo of the original recording… unless you time stretch your sample - but you can avoid this by deterimining the TEMPO before you sample!

If you need a step-by-step- you can read the following article written for the MOTIF XF but the section on RECORDING a “live” PERFORMANCE to the Internal Sequencer as Audio will take you through the process.

On the XF you have built in SDRAM for sampling, you will need to expand your Motif XS via DIMMs.

Hope that helps.
