Hi Forum - what do you guys recommend for a sustain pedal? Anyone have experience with the FC3, FC4 or FC5 (or some non-Yamaha pedal)? I’m thinking FC3 or FC4, can anyone explain why I want to pay the extra for the FC3 (or do I?)? Price difference isn’t a big deal (to me), actually. thanks, pros. |

If you plan to use half dampering, get the FC3. Otherwise, FC4 is just fine. I’ve used both and they’re really rock solid. If price difference is not an issue, get the FC3 because you can get better expression, but before doing so, make sure the Yamaha workstation you’ll use with it will support this. Motif XF supports the FC3 and even has parameters to enable this. But also consider that FC4 may work with other gear different from Yamaha, while FC3 won’t usually work. |

I would definitely recommend the FC3 for the Motif XF! If you’re interested, I wrote a review for the FC3 pedal a while ago. It’s available here: http://bwhli.com/2011/12/17/review-yamaha-fc3-dual-zone-sustain-pedal/ I use one with the XF, and it’s been great! |

I’m looking strictly for my XF, I’m not concerned if it will be usable with other boards. Not really concerned about the price difference (now ~$20 at the motivator shop). What I don’t know or understand is what this “better expression” is that I’ll get with the FC3, maybe you / someone can explain the difference? |
