Call up the following VOICE: PRE 1: 014(A14) Piano & Strings You can learn from this VOICE how it is possible to control the volume of the Piano with a one knob and the volume of the Strings with another (even at the VOICE level). In the upper left front panel press the TONE 1 button so that the third row of functions is selected and active. KNOB 3 (ASSIGN 1) will control the volume of the Strings and KNOB 4 (ASSIGN 2) will control the volume of the Piano.
You can go to the following screen to see how this VOICE was programmed to do this:
in this particular VOICE you have some Elements for the piano and other Elements for string sound combined into a single VOICE.
If your goal is to do this by combining a PIANO and a STRING sound in a PERFORMANCE, you can accomplish your goal in several ways:
FC7 Expression pedal:
Access PART (String) VOLUME via a KNOB:
With the [PERFORMANCE CONTROL] active you can select a PART to control. Select your String PART. With the TONE 3 row active you can use the VOLUME Knob 1 to FADE in the strings. This should not be a problem. Store your PERFORMANCE with the Piano VOLUME up and the String VOLUME at 0, make sure TONE 3 is selected and active when you press STORE.
Bad Mister’s TIP of the DAY:
Hope that helps. |

Yes, PARTS can be panned to the Left or Right as you desire. This is a PART Edit parameter.
Place the PARTs on the same MIDI Receive channel. Then set the keyboard to transmit on that MIDI channel.
"Tracks" are a function of the Sequencer. “Parts” are a function of the Tone Generator. You want the PARTS to have the same MIDI channel… here’s how it works:
Tracks transmit.
And the KEYBOARD transmits on only one channel at a time, it transmits via a track to the Part. Typically, you select *one* track and transmit on *one* MIDI Channel. So if you want to transmit to multiple PARTS, set the PARTS to the same MIDI channel you are transmitting on.
Each TRACK is set to transmit on a specific MIDI Channel. You can see what channel this is as follows:
Each PART is set to receive on a specific MIDI Channel. You can see what channel this is as follows:
When you are in the SEQUENCER modes (SONG or PATTERN) the keyboard transmits to the tone generator through the selected TRACK. on the right front panel make sure the [TRACK] light is light. As you press a number button [1]-[16] you are going to be transmitting on the MIDI channel of that Track. If you press button [1] and it is set to transmit on CHANNEL 1, then you will be transmitting to all PARTS set to receive Channel 1. If you press button [1] and track 1 is set to transmit on MIDI channel 12, then you will be transmitting on MIDI channel 12. The KEYBOARD transmits to the TONE GENERATOR through the currently selected TRACK of the Sequencer. |

I tried what you suggested. In the performance mode I had a piano part and string. I did all the steps you said and the volume knob was able to fade in the strings. Great!! I saved the performance with the string volume at zero. I saved with the performance control button OFF. The patch worked great until I turned off the unit and back on. Now the volume knob only controls the piano unless I press the performance control button and assign it again to the strings. All of the parameters that I saved returned when I recalled the patch except the volume assign for the strings.

Thoughts? yes, my thoughts are you are learning how to operate your MO-X. PERFORMANCE CONTROL does not automatically come on, you must press it. I pretty sure I mentioned that - you did not want to read that so you are surprised that it does not remember this - but the MO-X cannot press the [PERFORMANCE CONTROL] button for you - you must hit that when you want to perform using the PERFORMANCE CONTROL features. You must also press the PART SELECT button [1], [2], [3], [4] or [COMMON] to tell the KNOBS what PART or PARTS to interact with. I mentioned that as well, again you did not want to read this but I’m pretty sure I mentioned you must hit the button to tell the MO-X which PART you are controlling. When you initially call up a program certain this will be returned to a neutral state regardless of where they were when you stored them - others of course are stored. Controllers for example, say you store a VOICE with the MOD WHEEL up, that is not stored because in MIDI there is a RESET ALL CONTROLLERS command that will send a 0 for MW even though physically its position may be somewhere else.
PERFORMANCE CONTROL you must activate manually
That is how some things work. The VOICE stored exactly what it should have stored. The Lights on the front panel (I now sound like one of my sales trainings… every button that lights up adds to the cost of a product - it would be a travesty to not pay attention to what they are telling you. The [PERFORMANCE CONTROL] function turns buttons 1-4 into PART SELECT, buttons 5-8 into ARP ON/OFF, buttons 9-12 into PART MUTES, and 13-16 into ARP HOLD ON/OFF. A glance at these will tell you what is happening in this PERFORMANCE and what PART or PARTS will be affected should you move the KNOBS. |

Thank you for your help. I did read EVERYTHING in your posts and understood what you were saying. I am not new at this and have been programming boards since the minimoog, prophet 10, kurzweil etc.
