Hi
If you used voices on an XF which were also on the XS would an XF X3S song file be compatible with an XS?

If by compatible you mean that the XS should be able to read an X3S file then NO.

VOICES are not the problem. The file structure of the XS and XF are different and there is no direct file compatibility going backwards.

That said, if you saved the Motif XF song as a SMF (Standard MIDI File) it could be imported into the XS sequencer. You can INSERT a BANK SELECT/PROGRAM CHANGE event on each track to ensure the XS recalls the proper VOICE for each PART, prior to saving the .MID file.

Thanks Vikas and Bad Mister, I was wondering if the X3S files were compatible because the file would have included samples. It’s not a problem because the intended recipient has not indicated he would like to receive such files so I just won’t mention it.
Thanks again for your help
