I can’t figure out how to make a preset that stores all of my CC settings. Here’s my dilemma. I want to use Cubase quick controls, but Cubase quick controls uses standard midi CC messages to control them. I also want to use CC messages coming from the CS sliders on the motif to control my plugins. If I set one slider to CC11, I can’t use that same slider to control a quick control, or else I would be controlling 2 parameters simultaneously. The only feasible solution is the have two templates that I switch between. One set of 8 faders assigned to plugin CCs (CC1, CC7, CC11, CC15, etc etc) and another template with the sliders assigned to quick controls (CC?, CC?, CC?, CC? etc ) The other issue is that occasionally my plugins use a random CC internally to control the scripting. When selecting a CC to control the 8 quick controls, I’m afraid to settle on a CC, because who knows if and when a developer might decide to use that CC in their script. Using the same CC could cause some bizarre malfunction, and thats no fun… Here’s another possible solution. If I could alternate which channel the motif uses, I could set the quick controls to use a completely different port and switch to that port when I what to use the QCs. This eliminates the potential for a conflict and I could leave the CC settings on the motif the same all the time. To do this I could alternate between USB and standard MIDI using the utility screen. I’ll do that for now....Does anyone have a better solution? Thanks |

Perhaps. You don’t really say what it is you are trying to do (trying to control). You are certainly not using the templates or control features as setup by the Yamaha Steinberg “Studio Connection” initiative. The XS front panel (when in REMOTE mode) can used as a control surface for your DAW and for VST effects and instruments.
What program (VSTi) are you trying to control? There just maybe a better solution. |

Well I need to control CC1,CC7,CC11,CC15,CC36 for my plugins, and I’d like to have two more available for quick controls at minimum. I assigned the qquick controls to cc 89 and 90 since they are unused. I decided to use 4 sliders + mod wheel, and that leaves me 4 remaining sliders for quick controls. Can the remote feature do any of this? I find the remote feature a little hard to navigate but I’ll use it if you think it will work for my situation. Its a VST2 Plugin hosted inside Vienna Ensemble Pro (which is a VST3 plugin). And as far as I know it only responds to traditional CC messages. |

In Cubase, setup so that the Motif XS is the REMOTE DEVICE.
In the Motif XS
Open your VSTi
Press the REMOTE ON/OFF button (flashes) to launch control surface.
_ Select [[SF2] INST to view your VSTi
the Motif XS uses PORT 2 to communicate with various DAWs and is able to query and display the DAW’s own parameters and values in the Motif XS screen. PORT is is used exclusively for bi-directional communication of REMOTE CONTROL parameters. If you are using FW/mLAN that port is identified as the “Motif XS REMOTE” - if you are using USB-MIDI the port is identified as the “Motif XS-2”. |

Thanks Bad_Mister, but you lost me at “_ Select [[SF2] INST to view your VSTi “ because thats not an option that I can find using the “selected part control” button up and down navigation. I’m using MIDI tracks and an external VST host so I’m doubtful this feature would work, unless it allows me to assign specific CC messages. Although I thought my MASTER MODE method would work, the motif forgets all of my settings when ever I restart it, and this is frustrating. |

I’m now using the mLan to use the Motif’s sounds and FW audio interface. When I switch to master mode I lose my connection with the VST editor. Is there a way to send CC7, CC11, CC15 and other commands whilst still maintaining this connection with the VST editor (song mode)? |

I still think you should attempt this REMOTE layer… I may have miss spoke it might be [SF1] INST… I was doing that from memory. the REMOTE layer is described in the Motif XS Data List Booklet 2. Once you get your VSTi selected, its parameters will all appear -It takes a few minutes to figure out how to navigate the REMOTE layer but once you get it, its pretty cool. All parameters are automatically assigned to the various knobs, you simply access them because the VSTi’s parameters will appear inthe XS screen, so you don’t have to remember where you put what. Any way, it may or may not work for you, but its definitely is worth a look. |
