We can go about this various ways. Either you or I could come up with a basic song idea and then relay it back and forth until we’re both satisfied with the end result. So, for example, if you came up with a regular song idea and sent it to me, I’d work on it by adding texture, arrangement possibilities, maybe come up with an interesting melodic phrase, then pass it back to you in two ways: one with the full arrangement and the other omitting any details you’d like to perform yourself and brush up. The question is, would you prefer to come up with the song or would you prefer that I do it? If I begin the process, I’ll keep it relatively simple and open-ended, plus write out the lead sheet.

Would we start we an Audio recording of the idea or a MIDI file?

Since I am comfortable about creating the melody and you have the experience to flesh out the arrangement so I guess that would be best.

Would I provide just the melody or a beginning arrangement as well?

You could come up with the basic song idea and then I could flesh it out from there. We can work out the details as we go along. Start a new thread and post it once it’s ready.

It’s good that my art sounds different. I generally don’t follow conventional songwriting norms.

Agreed; one should play its own music.
I know that the cover bands don’t like me, but how would they feel
when everybody’s trying to copy THEM.

I was referring to composing/arranging. Speaking as an artist, I want my work to have a distinct quality. After all, if my work sounded just like everyone else’s, why bother? It’s not a popularity contest.

P.S. Some cover bands are extremely capable musicians. Some musicians are great songwriters, others are great performers, et al. We all don’t share the same talents, so it’s best to play to our strengths.
