Ok, so far it’s just one idea, but, go to “Sweet Flute AF1”. Since it’s a polyphonic flute, you can play some diads and triads which will produce a mellotronish sound VERY reminiscent of the Beatles—Strawberry Fields Forever. If anyone else has some other mellotron tones, please post ‘em. |

This is a perfect application for using Category Search! With so many presets loaded it’s difficult to expect anyone to audition them all one by one to hear what’s what. If you spent just 30 seconds with each preset trying the mod wheel, asssignable knobs, AS switches, etc. it would take 8-1/2 hours to try them all out. At which time you would have forgotten a lot of them already ;) But if you search Strings/Synth and SaxWW/Flute you will find those Mellotron presets. |

It’s also useful to bring up the PDF of the MOX Data List on your computer. The list is largely grouped by category, but also, you have text search. So you can search for “tron” or other likely text strings in the sounds you’re looking for. |

I’m a happy new owner of a XF8. Learning my way around it a bit every day. I have found that the Tron Flute voice has a very loud hum which can be attenuated by lowering volume fader #2. Does anyone else have the same experience? Am I correct in assuming the voice is not a real, sampled mellotron? Is the hum supposed add 60hz “character”? I find it really annoying! |

The answer to all your questions is “yes”.
If you find it annoying, you can indeed address the problem as you said you did. That’s what “programming” is...so you can tweak and change things

:-) So did everyone back-in-the-day, that’s why it is added as a removable Element. But if you want to be authentic put it back in. It would have been to silly to sample the noise into the sound itself - would leave you no room to remove it.
What you will not find “annoying” is the fact that you can remove it! :-)
Bad flutes, bad strings, bad everything (that was the beauty of the Mellotron) - funny, what makes it a desirable sound is that it was used (to good application) in so many HIT SONGS from that era!!!! Funny… about sounds - some come and go out of style. If you tell someone who wasn’t around in those days that these are great sounding FLUTES (as on Strawberry Fields), they might think you are crazy or just don’t know. But if you are going for the classic emulation, then and only then do they make sense, I guess. I wish I had a nickel for everyone who never gets the ‘Tron voices… like some things it is a aquired taste :-) |
