I’ve come to the conclusion that the lack of faders isn’t really a problem at all. It’s true that the knob interface for volume is a bit awkward, in that the implementation is not as smooth or complete or as obvious as it might be, but really, using those knobs for level control has a real advantage over faders. The knobs on the MOX are endless rotaries. So when you go to adjust a level, it’s always at the “right” place for you to turn the volume up or down relative to whatever level it happened to start at. No “jumps” to a fader’s absolute position, no need to move a fader “past” a point that corresponds to the existing value before it can function. Maybe Yamaha will improve the implementation in a software update, but even as it is, I don’t really miss the faders… it would just be nice if the knob approach were improved. And at least, theoretically, Yamaha could enhance the knob functionality in a software update. There’s no way a software update was ever going to add physical faders to the board. ;-) |
