Whatever it is the XS won’t be getting it! But seriously those of you who say that the older boards sound better than the XF You make yourselves sound really silly and you also sound like a bunch of haters. I LOVE MY XF, But at the same time I MISS MY ES, The more I think about it I miss my damn TRITON, So bottom line!!!!!!!!!! They are all great boards, They have all contributed to making Grammy Winning Music! Use what works for you. To Each, His own. Most of you that state how much you dislike the XF have probably not have had the pleasure of playing on one for a lengthy amount of time. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! See it, Push it, Turn it, Slide it, Play it, Rec it, And Then...........Form YOUR OWN Opinion. |

As far as new stuff goes, you got Karma and the new iPad apps. That’s pretty cool if you ask me! |

KARMA will be available for both the XS and XF, and the i-MX1 MIDI interface will allow the XS to interact with an iPad—see:

at this point, it is very hard to improve on something that really doesn’t need as much improvement as far as sound. i mean i think yamaha focused more on workflow and dont get me wrong they did add more sound, i mean my old es came with i believe 170 something mb and my xf has 740 something mb, i mean thats a big difference. and if your like me who likes to program your old sound, thats a good thing, plus 8 waveforms for one voice. who ever said that old motifs sound better is talking a lot of non sence, i mean, thats the same garbage that old school heads are saying about akai mpc 3000,60 compared to mpc 1000 and 2500, let me tell you this, i still get good sound out of my mpc 2500 and have owened two mpc 3000, i would not trade my 2500 because its work flow, usb, cf, etc.. its just made for today and really does not lack the mpc feel, same for motif xf, it is made for todays workflow and in my imo it does sound warmer and better, the grand piano sound alone is a improvmenent over older motif’s, i just compared alicias keys, ivory with new motif xf grand waveform, and yes of course there better quality with all that memory but the new motif xf grand does not fall short neither, its reall good considering the memory yamhas working with, a step up from previous piano sounds in motif es and xs |

my only complaint is that yamaha has charged too much for flash memory and should have at least went all out and given us like at least 10gb for $300 bucks, thats 20 gb with two boards installed and yet you still can’t convert your favorite vsti in there. when people will we see hardware with massive rom and memory so we can rid our self of this vst insanity, latency issues are killing me. |

That would be cool if they added the option of bigger flash and I know flash memory if expensive right now. The Kronos has a 40 gig SSD drive...isn’t flash memory faster than SSD? Can you imagine a 32 or 64 gig flash XF with the ability to load your own samples and VST...WOW! With the other stuff we have for the XF that would be huge! Al F |

I guess some of you haven’t red many of Delerium’s posts. He’s a witty sarcastic little devil ;) Looks like you dog was chiming in. Though I have to say when I sold my Motif Classic after getting my XS, upon demoing it the Classic did have this grainy charm to it that the XS didn’t have. Sounded more “Vintage” in an odd sense. Point being, I could see both having a use in the studio texture wise. With so many new options around the corner from Korg and Roland that there really is NO reason for an XS owner to upgrade to an XF IMO. I’m sure the XF sounds a little better, and maybe a couple (at best!) new features will be added, but no upgrade is going to put it inline with what’s soon to be the new standard. The XF is most likely the End of the Line for the Motif Series, and honestly it’s about time. 10 Years is a good run! |

I would like to see some NEW very-high quality Motif XF sample libraries that focus on :
* Orchestral Instruments. (Section and Solo)
As far as new features for the Motif XF, well… Any New and Useful, additional features YAMAHA offers for the Motif XF are Welcomed !
Cheers,

Its a nobrainer - they all suck. they all have minor improvements. motif was a sham from the beginning forcing consumers to buy their PLG boards and later eliminating them and forcuing customers to buy dave polich’s libraries. i can understand something like 80’s voice libraries or that gated fx library but why make library about stuff that already exists - that just proves yamaha is like a bad teacher at school - they teach bad so the child will be forced to see the teacher after school (math tutor); dave polich voice libraries is the example of the ‘tutor’ (some of his libraries do sound better than the preset stock from yamaha factory) while yamaha is the ‘teacher’ in this example. i m not personally bashing anyone just stating the facts :P the yamaha ex is still the flagship and if they upgraded with the newer technology the ex would have sold like hot popcorn
listen to the filters in this and compare with the thin weedy motif filters:
yamaha cannot now say i am a competitor envoy since i am praising yamaha’s own legendary synth of the past~! |

Good luck finding a “perfect” synth (or “perfect” anything, for that matter). There are weaknesses and strong points in very synth or sampler that I own. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I’d love to have a single keyboard that covered all my needs well, with multisamples that didn’t have artifacts that were caused by the samples being stretched too far, etc., etc.
One problem is that very few users are motivated enough to learn how to edit a voice, let alone program one from scratch. I’ve gone so far as to write my own editor/librarian programs for two of my older synths, and additional software for others. While owner’s manuals from many manufacturers leave lots to be desired, at least Yamaha in recent years has provided support well beyond those manuals.
In a lot of cases more samples aren’t needed or used, the waveforms already exist in the onboard ROM. As I mentioned previously, the XF has 3,977 waveforms in ROM. Based on that, how many factory voice presets more than the 1024 (plus 128 in User 1) that already exist would be reasonable to cover most of those waveforms? Different users lean towards different genres/styles. How do you make all users happy and still offer a product they can afford?
My solution to the situation is to own several sound sources. I have equipment that covers analog, FM, sample playback ("ROMplers") and sampling, from various manufacturers. I doubt a single unit could replace all (or even most) of them—if nothing else, I don’t tend to run out of polyphony. :-) Also, if I was depending on a single piece of gear and it failed, I’d be really unhappy. I realize that not everyone has the resources to have multiple keyboards, etc., but that approach works for me—and I may have to add an EX5 to the bunch. Some of us may just suffer from GAS—Google “Gear Acquisition Syndrome” if you’re not familiar with the term. |

I have the motif classic and the motif Xf, and the only thing that would criticize the xf there is his acoustic piano which I do not run out of of pleasing, too opaquely lacking in force |
