Hi, I’m into my 3rd day trying to get midi out working - so frustrated. Midi in seems to be working but getting any sound out is becoming maddening. I’ve followed the help file and scoured the forum for an answer - spent ages and am now looking for a large wall to bash my head against. Cubase 4AI Motif XS6.

Be aware that usb only transmit midi. To get audio from your motif into cubase you need to use your analog or spdif out from your motif into your Soundcard. After that you have to make an audiotrack in cubase that get an input from the soundcard that get input from your motif. Then in cubase this track has to be armed and the midi track, dedicated to your motif miditrack, selected. If, this basic stuff, is what you already did and this doesn’t work then I don’t know how to help you. |

Thanks for the reply, but at this stage I’m only trying to get Midi from the pc to the XS. I’ve recorded audio from the keyboard to the pc soundcard using another program with no problems. Haven’t tried recording audio to Cubase at this stage, but I know I’ll have to connect to the soundcard, set up a track and arm it to record the audio output. At the moment the XS is connected to an external stage amplifier. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. |

We’d be happy to help you here, but forgive us for this but unless you actually give the version numbers of “all the updates” you downloaded, we wind up spending an additional 3 days trying to help you.
Cubase AI4 what version?
In the meantime go to CONTROL PANEL and find the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver and double click it to open the Control Panel… what do you see? We’ll need those answers ... thanks. |

Thanks Bad_Mister, sorry to sound so frustrated but I’ve never had this much trouble getting things going.
Cubase AI4 Ver 4.5.2
USB Midi driver in control panel looks functional - I can’t paste it here. |

Thanks for posting the versions. It has nothing to do with your issue but your Motif XS can be updated to 1.56 which is the latest.
Also Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver Ver 3.0.4-2 is the latest.
The center panel should have a flashing number 1, since you did not mention it, this means that your USB connection is not functioning currently.
Go to [UTILITY] > [F5] CONTROL > [SF2] MIDI

Sorry it was getting a bit late here - my USB control panel looks exactly like yours, it has a flashing 1 in the centre panel. I’d set the XS to MIDI IN/OUT = USB and stored it. I’ll try and be more specific, I did mention in my origional post that I’m getting Midi in ok, (between rants) I’ll update the USB-MIDI Driver and firmware. I’ve run out of time to spend on this for now so I’ll go back over the articles I was using and see if I can get it working when I’ve cooled off, found a swear book with a larger vocabulary and have more time. Hopefully it wil be something simple that I’ve overlooked. Thanks for your help. |
