so just to be sure we are on the same page, are you asking about the Motif XF or two rack modules? (xs rack and fantom x rack?) do you already have a midi controller that you like? |

if it was me and I had the choice, I’d choose the two racks. I’m positive that I would now that I’ve been enlightened to some information. The XR has sampling capabilities (not sure how good it is as a sampler, but I’ve not heard bad things...), plus it uses the famous roland srx expansion cards. then on top of that you get the motif XS rack. which has the exact same sound set as the XF (as far as presets are concerned), the only thing you get different with the XF is the USR1 bank and the new samples that are associated with them (as far as sounds… there are some “new features” though… but if sounds are what you are after… I’d take the XR and Rack XS combo FOR SURE. you still have sampling and room for expansion (via the XR) and if you install a few expansion cards it would be equivalent to what the XF offers as far as “instant” ROM added to the machine. you still have all the wonderful arps that the XS has included for us to use. I don’t really even see how it’s a question as to which to get. You could probably get both of these racks used for around $1500 TOTAL. You’d be looking at $2000 just for the XF6 and that’s with NO Flash memory. If you get the XF you’ve got 4 banks of 128 sounds that you can use. (really only 3 unless you erase the one that Yamaha has provided) So that’s what.... 128 * 4 = 512 sounds that would be different from what you’d get on the XS? (remember though, that you’d have 3 user banks to download/purchase/make your own sounds on the XS rack. PLUS!!!!! you’d also have a whole entire different synth in the Fantom XR!!!!! it’s obvious man!!!! Isn’t it obvious what you should do? |

It seems too obvious to me… but if you just want the “newest” thing then the xf is defiantly the one for you. Later. |

If you have a good keyboard controller that works well with your cubase then personally i would go for the 2 racks as that will give you the best that both Roland and Yamaha offer in soundsets, and as Apex says, quite possibly cheaper.

This is a good topic...I own an xs and don’t want to spend money for the xf because the things I need in a keyboard I really have in the xs..Get me?? The xf really isn’t that much different than the xs in my opinion..I think I will look into that xr-rack to and run it with my xs..I was gonna wait until the tyros4 came out but adding a rack with my xs sounds good...Does the M3 have a rack???If so I wouldn’t mind pairing the M3 rack with the xs..I think they compliment one another anyway..My budddy has an xs and the m3 and they work together well.. |

yes the m3 is a rack… (more of less) the thing with the screen on the m3 can be removed and used as a module. you can also purchase it separately. look it up under korg m3-m. the m3 is very nice as well!!!! |

who cares about the editor. just set the xr to run in mutli-timbral mode and then access the different midi channels via cubase. simple. if you must use the editor to edit sounds, etc… just access it standalone (outside of cubase) peace. |
