My drums are too loud, so I’m trying to hard edit the volume down to around 90 on Multi channel 10 (’All kicks’ patch).  Its output is directed to asL.  When change the volume to 90, and Store, Enter, are you sure.. yes.. it appears to save it.  However, when my MIDI track plays (no matter what its volume is set to) the volume immediately jumps back to 127.

Yes, I can change the volume in the midi track, but as said above, it doesn’t look like the rack is responding to that volume change.

Sigh.. I guess I’ll just hard code a controller 7.

If you are asking does the Motif-Rack XS store Volume settings, the answer is yes.

What you need to find out is what is telling the Motif-Rack XS to set the volume to 127. That is not a random number, that is not even the default Volume number, therefore some information in the Track is already telling it to go that setting.

We have no further details about your track data- but if you explore it you will find the cause.

Jees I have a lot to learn.. thanks.  I guess the volume setting, like the voice in a multi, is only good until the midi track sends it something else.
