I would say that what you are experiencing is correct.
Let’s start with the XS.
By selecting USB or mLAN mode the XS MIDI ports will act as an interface to your computer/daw. So when you play on your XS keybord it sends midi messages thru usb/mLAN to your computer/daw which routes it back to the XS midi ports and finaly to the equipment that is attached to your XS MIDI out.
The same goes the other way.
By simplifying it, you need to visualize your computer/daw as the center. MIDI messages goes there and can be routed/forwarded to an available midi interface. There’s a good section in your XS Owners Manual that starts at p.43 /M |

This is not true. The XS tone generator and the midi ports in the rear are two different midi interfaces/ports in your daw. You need to select and configure the ports/interfaces in your daw.
Yes it is! It will act as a tone generator AND a midi interface =)
Not neccessary. The key here is not the ammount of midi ports/interfaces, it is about midi routing to and from different interfaces.
For ref please check this article
You might have noticed that there are several Motif XS midi interfaces/ports available in your computer/daw. When connecting the MOTIF XS to a computer using a USB cable or an IEEE1394 cable, the MIDI ports are defined as follows:
Port 1
Port 2
Port 3
The key would be to route midi messages in your computer/daw from one channel/interface to another channel/interface. In this case the route would be between Motif XS port 1 and port 3 for all or specific midi channels.
I never use the setup you describe. I don’t use several sequencers or controllers x-linked in my daw environment. Usually i have one master keyboard/controller connected to the daw. My midi instruments are connected to the daw usually only to receive midi messages.

thnx for the answer but im sorry. when midi in\out on MLAN the midi out and in conection to the MPC dosent work. (the MPC controls transport on cubase via MLAN, but cant get the midi notes to the motif. and when midi in\out is on MIDI the midi notes from MPC playes the MOTIFs tone but its dosent let the midi triger the transport on cubase for sure there is no way to use MPC as sequenser with MOTIF as tone generator at sane time sync transport on cubase with MPC master.
ofcourse until somone will proof me wrong!

Sorry, I cannot understand your original post or I would have tried to help you. Please take your time and explain what you would like to do.
If I am understanding this the MPC is the master clock, and Cubase is slaving to that clock, you don’t say what type of clock you are using. Just that you have “all the settings that i need...” What are those? Because as far as I know Cubase does not slave to MIDI clock, so what are you using? |
