I have a Motif ES6.  My Performance List includes a myriad of 128 sounds along with some cool arpeggios.  How does one record in Performance Mode?  I can record in Pattern and Song Mode.
with no problem.
Why is is so difficult to record in Performance MOde.

Thanks

The SEQUENCER modes are clearly marked on the front panel: they are SONG and PATTERN mode.

You own a Motif ES… The Motif XS can record from PERFORMANCE mode.

Thanks Bad Mister

There are a plethora of arpeggios available in performance mode just doesnt seem logical not to be able to write and record and save those sequences on the Motif ES6.  Will have to be content and play those arpeggios on the fly.

Guess its time to upgrade to Motif XS.

We are pretty sure we did not say that you could not record arpeggios to the sequencer. We simply said that you cannot do it while in PERFORMANCE mode.

If you wish to record arpeggio to the sequencer you can certainly do that, that is part of why they exist.

What is different about the Motif XS is that it has the ability to control as many as four arpeggio PARTS simultaneously, and therefore a method was developed to record all of this to the sequencer directly from PERFORMANCE mode (called Direct Performance Record).

However, the Motif ES has the ability to access just a single arpeggio pattern at a time. If you wish to record this to a SONG or PATTERN you can can certainly do that easily enough.

Go to SONG or PATTERN mode
Press [RECORD] to enter Record mode
[F1] SETUPUse this screen to setup the basic record attributes - it is highly recommended that if recording to a PATTERN you turn QUANTIZE = OFF and turn the LOOP function = OFF
Press [F2] VOICE
Select the VOICE you want to record
Press [F3] ARP
assign an arpeggio type to the PART
Press [F4] REC ARP (Record Arpeggio)
Set this function to ON and the arpeggio data will be recorded to the track.

When you playback make sure you trun ARP ON/OFF = OFF (otherwise you will be arpeggiating the arpeggio data).

You can copy PERFORMANCES into SONG/PATTERN MIXING setups and you can record the arpeggios - then reallocate the ARP to the next part and in a record one at a time fashion you can use the arpeggio data as much and as often as you like.

You can get deeper into this - Please see the following tutorial on the Motif ES:
Recording Performance to the Motif ES Sequencer

As mentioned this was replaced on the Motif XS with a single button press (truly innovative) - but the Direct Performance Record was developed in response to ES owner’s who found the arpeggio data very useful in music composition and song construction. The XS also upped the number of arpeggio types from 1787 to a whopping 6633.

Check it out, if you like it - you will love the XS!

Can you record a performance to Cubase 5 via mLAN16E card?

Yes, you could use mLAN audio master outputs (channels 15&16;) and record your performance on one audio track in Cubase. If you use MIDI channels, than you will record up to four instruments on one MIDI channel. Since it is not what you want, than you should disolve instruments on separate channels. This is similar when you have loaded SMF 0 file (standard MIDI format used by ES) since all instruments will be in one MIDI track.
I’m using the first solution via audio recording when I want to capture some ideas and Performance mode is sometimes ideal for that.
