Having just a little bit of trouble with something. I understand how to get the ARPS Midi Data into the Fantom G sequencer. But here is where the problem comes in. The fantom G has an internal parts section of the sequencer and an external parts section of the sequencer. Even though I am working with the external parts (since I’m triggering/using the RACK XS) it is still triggering sounds on Midi Channel/Part of the internal sequencer. For example, I am working with a multi and I’m on part to of the multi and I have the arp set up and have it is triggering the sound on part 2 of the RACK XS multi… the only problem is that it is also triggering sound from the instrument on part 2 of the internal parts of the FANTOM G. It’s all based on the midi channel that is selected when I go into the Multi edit screen choose part 2 and then go to voice. there is an option named “receive ch” which ever number I select here it triggers notes from that instrument/channel/part of the internal sequencer ALONG with the instrument/channel/part from the XS rack… and it also only does it when I turn the arp switch/ audition button on… if it’s off I don’t think it triggers that internal midi part on the Fantom G. HELP. this is very frustrating… |

Sorry, but I don’t know much about the Fantom G… but the Motif Rack XS only transmits its arpeggio data OUT via MIDI when you set it to do so. If anything is connected to that MIDI OUT, it has no choice but to respond. You want to find out how to prevent the Fantom G from responding to data coming in the MIDI IN jack on MIDI channel 2. So your question is best posed to Roland. |

only thing though mister is if I stop the Fantom G from responding to data coming from the Midi IN on midi channel 2 (in this situation), how would I then be able to record the arp data (midi notes) that the Rack XS is transmitting into the Fantom G’s sequencer....(or whatever sequencer) |

I’m going to post this in multiple places in this forum because there is more than one instance where the information is needed… so sorry in advance for the double post. OK. guys this is what I’ve figured out. I am just simply trying to record the midi data that the Rack XS is sending when I trigger an ARP to play. When I record the Midi Data that the Motif Rack XS is sending out for some reason it is recording the data to the INTERNAL, EXP 1, EXP2, & EXTERNAL Midi Channel/part 2. I am not sure why it is doing this, but I figured out that it like this. After I recorded the midi the Arp Midi Data I went into the microscope and sure enough it says that the midi data was recorded on INT, EXP1, EXP2, and External… so that is the reason that it kept on playing the midi channel 2 (internal) when I just wanted it to play the midi channel 2 (external)… I guess if I had an expansion 1 or 2 ARX card it would be triggering midi channel 2 on that as well.
I’m trying to figure out what’s causing it to trigger all the mixers(int, exp1, exp2, ext)…
does anyone know how to tell the Fantom which mixer to record the data too? does that have something to with the OUTPUT Destination? surely not… since we the problem is not at the output stage, but at the input stage? it’s actually being recorded to every place where there is a midi channel 2 reference in the Fantom G. So when I record the Arp Data from the Rack XS, and it is outputting the data on channel 2 it shouldn’t send the information to all the mixers (int, exp1, exp2, ext...) it should only send it to the one that I am triggering it from. that’s the reason for selecting the track...right? i know this is a yamaha forum, but this info may help someone and also there may be someone on here with experience with the fantom g and the rack xs. |

You need to ask Roland. |

I just got off the phone with Product Support from Roland US The answer to this question/issue is you can’t seperate them. The Fantom G (just like any other device) can’t distinguish what “part"/"mixer" to associate the date with. So it just associates it will all midi channels (that its being transmitted on)- internal midi channel, expansion 1 midi channel, expansion 2 midi channel, and external midi channel. That is why it would trigger sounds from all those other parts. The only way around it is to mute those parts while the midi data is being transmitted into the Fantom G. Case Closed. Thanks Eric from Product Support (Roland US) |
