Hi All,
Was without a Motif for awhile, long story, but the now “EX” made me feel guilty I had such an elabrite toy, when she needed dental work. Sold the S08, THEN the M08! Gave her the cash, she never even went to the dentist! LOL!So the chips fell as they may, and Im single now after 20 years and enjoying my private music time. Im disabled, and my music is kinda all I have and can do.
I stepped up and bought the XS8 and HS monitors with the Sub, and am loving it! I remembered alot of stuff from the M08 and dove right into this unit. OMG! this WILL keep you busy!
1)Is thier any way to have “track view” when recording in Song Mode? Would love it for punching in.
2)I also noticed the VST Editor being talked about here on the forums for my Cubase5 and XS8 and just had to have it. Ended up having to do all the driver updates. And then I remembered, I dont really know what a VST really is and how to impliment them. I have my PC talking to the Motif via firewire. I recorded an audio track in Cubase. It did record as I can see the wave/audio picture. But I cant get it to playback and hear it. I know the Motifs transporter is midi, is that why I cant hear the audio playback from Cubase?
3)If I choose to load a new project with the VST for the Xs8 in Cubase, forget it, I cant even get it to record in Cubase at all.
4)I also had asked a question here awhile back and got a responce for it, but cant find the posting now. I wanted to be able to record my friend playing his Sax into the microphone plugged into the AD port of the XS8, WHILE, I play the keyboard on the XS at the same time, as we jam together. This would be a Audio and Midi recording at the same time into the Motif, how can I do this (I forgot)?
5) Also, when I press the DAW button on my Motif while connected, I get this crazy screen. I thought it would look more like the Cubase displayed. Is there a Power User artical on using this? OH! By the way Web master, the PDF for the Vocoder artical on this site doesnt load or work.(for me anyways)
Also, real time level meters would be nice in the Mix Mode (just an idea, im sure theres a reason not to)
Thanks All.

If you are referring to on the Motif XS, no. You can view either the setup screen or the Arpeggio select screen. However, punching in and punching out can be done at any time. You can either automate it (set a Punch In point and Punch Out point using the LOCATE MARKERS) or you can manually drop in and out of record using the Record button.

AUTOMATE Punch in/out
You can listen back and use the [STORE] + [<<] Locate 1 combination to store Locate Point 1 (Punch In) marker and then [STORE] + [>>] Locate 2 to store the Locate Point 2 (Punch Out) marker.
Press [RECORD]
Set the RECORD TYPE = PUNCH
Press [F3] COPY LOC (Copy Locate points)
This will insert your two Locate markers as your automated Punch in and Punch out points.

MANUAL Punch in/out
You can manually punch in and out using the following technique.
Press [RECORD]
Set the Record Setup as you desire
Press the PLAY [>] button to begin the count-in, during the count in press the [RECORD] button (flashes) you are now OUT of record in “rehearse” mode, you can PUNCH IN at anytime by simply pressing the RECORD button (red light goes steady)

2)If I choose to load a new project with the VST for the Xs8 in Cubase, forget it, I cant even get it to record in Cubase at all.

Take your time, setting up for use with VST takes a bit of routing savvy… Basically, you are addressing the Motif XS as an external device through the VST Editor. We have tutorials in the SUPPORT area. The advantage of this routing is specifically when recording Audio tracks and wishing to process them through VST Effects.

3)I also had asked a question here awhile back and got a responce for it, but cant find the posting now. Again, take your time. We have tutorials outlining how to setup a microphone input through the Motif XS - you can assign it a discreet firewire audio output and capture it on a track, this will not interfere with your normal MIDI recording of your playing on the Motif XS

What is in the screen during record is of less importance particularly when using the XS as a REMOTE CONTROL, you can open windows on your computer using the various buttons, I think you missing the point of its role. DAW REMOTE control is so you can work your DAW from your playing position, that is, start/stop, arm tracks, mute, solo, select instruments, setup mix levels, view meters, control VSTi, etc., etc.

Your computer screen is where you want the “eye-candy”, lol.
