Lately, I’ve noticed that when I am recording in PATTERN MODE and I have the sequencer control set to INTERNAL MODE, I’ve found a patch I want to use along with an ARP.  I get that recorded in a track.  Next, repeating the process for a 2nd track, record another Patch/ARP combination. I’ll find that the 1st track patch has changed to a different patch than what I set it up as, even after storing.  I just change the patch back but sometimes this happens quite a lot.  I’m wondering if I am doing something wrong or if in ROM there is some sort of programming that X Patch always goes with Y ARP.  The issue is not that big of a deal, mainly more frustrating than anything.

Thanks

First, the word “PATCH” in PATTERN mode is the function found at [F4] PATCH. In Yamaha-speak a PATCH lets you assign a Phrase to each track to create a Pattern.

Is this what you are talking about or are you talking about VOICES when you say “patch”.

If you don’t use the proper words you will remain confused. Try asking your question again, I could not follow it.

Sounds like you are using the “VOICE WITH ARP” parameter to select your ARPEGGIOS, if so, once you decide that this is the sound you want turn the parameter OFF. Let us know. VOICE WITH ARP means that you are recalling the original VOICE that the ARPEGGIO pattern was made with.

Voice with ARP (Voice with Arpeggio)
Each Arpeggio type is assigned a specific Voice best suited to the type. When an Arpeggio type has been assigned to a recorded track, this parameter determines whether or not the Voice assigned to the Arpeggio type will also be used for the recorded track. When set to “on,” the appropriate Voice is assigned to the recorded track in place of the currently assigned Voice. When set to “off,” the appropriate Voice is not assigned to the recorded track. The currently assigned Voice is maintained. The name of the Voice registered to the Arpeggio Type is shown at the right side.

Settings: off (not copied), on (copied)

Ok!  I though I had to have VOICE WITH ARP turned on to get the ARP to play at all.  Your explanation makes complete sense!  The tracks where I don’t have an ARP and leave this option off I have no problem with the voice changing!  Yes I am using the word Patch to mean Voice...Sorry.

Thanks BM, believe it or not I am learning!

The “VOICE with ARP” parameter was specifically included to make sense of the special category arps. For example, the Guitar MegaVoice and Bass MegaVoice arpeggio patterns, and those with specific velocity ranges, like the Z-PAD arps (or Zoned Velocity Arpeggios)… If you were to apply these to say a piano Voice it would not be pretty.

The Guitar and Bass MegaVoices have notes above and/or below the range of those instruments that apply sound effects like string scrapes, finger zings, thumps, knocks, etc. One of the design concepts behind the way the arps are assembled was to allow the user freedom to apply the arpeggio patterns to any Voice. However, in the specialty cases

If you had to spend an afternoon trying to match each ARP to see if worked it might be a long process. So “VOICE with Arp” is a necessity - particularly when searching for something genre appropriate… Nothing says you have to use a HipHop Drum kit with a HipHop drum arp, but if you want to hear it with the kit the author originally intended, you can.

However, as you have learned, while a great “search” tool, it can be problematic if you leave it ON. So once you have selected your ARPEGGIO and decided what VOICE would best go with it, you can turn it OFF… then STORE your selection.

Yes Sir!  I get it!  I am using the ARPs MUCH more!  I am continually amazed at the XS.  Thanks for the explanation!
