Is it possible to use the Ribbon Controller (XS) to set the sustain/release parameters for use in a live setting?  More specifically to touch the ribbon controller XS6 and have it increase the “release” in order to sustain a certain sound while I’m playing on a XS8.  My feet are already using a volume for the XS6 and sustain for the XS8.

Thanks

The Ribbon Controller (sending Control Change 022) can be assigned send AEG RELEASE. Here’s an example of how to use it:

Call up the VOICE: PRE4:015(A15) Medium Large Sections
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON EDIT]
Press [F4] CONTROL SET
Control Set #6 has the RIBBON(22) controlling CUTOFF
Move the cursor to highlight the Destination “CUTOFF”
Press [SF6] LIST to reveal the 100 destination parameters you can assign the controller.
Move up the list and select AEG RELEASE
Set the DEPTH to +16 (although you can set this to taste)

Go to [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF3] OTHER
set the RIBBON MODE = HOLD
this will allow you to remove your finger from the Ribbon to “hold” the results.

When you move your finger to the extreme right on the ribbon, the AEG RELEASE will be maximum - giving you a very long release time… it will eventually disappear.

Moving your finger towards the Center of the ribbon will return it to normal play.

Moving your finger to the extremely left will make the envelope release aburpt and unnaturally short.

How do I do this using a Performance instead of Voice?

You simply place your edited Voices as PARTS of your PERFORMANCE. The RIBBON MODE is set as follows:
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON EDIT]
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF4] OTHER
Set Ribbon Mode = Hold
