i just recently went into the local music store. When the Motif XS first came out I used to giggle and smirk and scoff and mock and abhor and despise and and disregard the whole Motif XS thing, and for very good real world reasons. Guess what? I still do, and even more so now. I mean, the Motif XS came out here at $4,500 rrp (61 note), bit of a sick joke yeah i know. But fast forward three years into the future, 2010, and what does Yamaha do to the precious potential customers? They decide to stick with the massively under specced and under featured My bad words are getting censored.-box called an XS and put up the price by a $1000. ROFL...hang on, let me do that again ROFL...compared to modern day computers with cheap ram and stonkingly powerful quad core i7’s and fully decked out 64 bit software DAW’s, the XS simply can’t compete.
You think they would have learnt by now that you can’t pump up the price on something that simply isn’t selling. But i repeat! what does Yamaha go and do? Instead of bring out a long overdue fully pumped successor, or at the very least, dropping the price of the current XS, they go and increase the price by a $1000. Looks to me like a defiant act of desperation and denial in my books, Yeah thats right, now its $5,500. Would that qualify as profiteering and price gouging from a market in decline? i would say it does. Let me ask you Yamaha, Have you lost the fu_king plot and all sense of reality or something?
Now you would have to say that for yamaha to go and do that to a three year old archaic chunk of sh_t like the XS is just plain defiant stupidity on Yamahas part, and a sick joke. I’ve previously pushed the Motif Xs to it’s limits and created songs on an XS that simply do not match the results i can pull off in software. I’m about to upgrade to a whole new system and my options compared to a Motif are astounding. For example i could buy an MPC5000 with many more features and better sounds (MPC drumkits anyone?) than the XS for $3,200, but if i wanted to go with a laptop setup it will cost me $2,500 all up including midi controller and the best 64 bit software on the planet which includes the kitchen sink. Now tell me, which way should i go yamaha? hehehe… get with the fu_king program.

Motif xs isnt selling? That is news to me. I had to buy my motif xs8 from germany because all the shops in UK ran out of stock. ALL the shops. lol. You go play live with your dell laptop and maudio plasticy keys. I will stick to my xs8. :D. When I saw the thread title, I thought yamaha dropped xs price which would indicate a new workstation from yamaha. motif xs is cheaper in UK now.

Sounds to me like you cant even afford a motf , How does buying a laptop,an mpc 5000 and a daw justify what you would spend on a motif? dont forget the audio/midi interface and midi controller.:)

Lets do the math,

Mpc 5000 the most...$1800
Laptop (A good one!) around $1200
DAW $500

Oh lets not forget audio/midi interface which the motif XS8 is as well.
$500

Thats about $4000 right there. Thats without a midi controller.:)
This is an expensive hobby/field

Spend the money the way you need to.

I have a motif XS8, A Roland Fantom G6 , Apple macbook pro 17” ,
Logic Pro 9 . Thats a little over 10 grand . And I do this for a hobby. I am no pro ,,, heck, Im not even a keyboard player. I just love my hobby and I can afford it.

“Foley” (bullshit generator). Yes XS is not perfect, but is better than any software. What software gives u 7000 customizable arps?.That reason alone is enoght....and the list goes on...(voice libraries..  etc)

I don’t think that u pushed the Motif Xs to it’s limits. U’re a liar )))). Maybe u stretch you’re ass to it’s limits (bullshit generator))). But not Motif XS to it’s limits.

He doesnt even own Motif XS8. He cant afford it. :D The only reason he likes DAWs and virtual synths over hardware synth is that DAWs and virtual synths can be downloaded for “free”. I dont know why they are hesitant to ban him.

Hahaha .... This simply made my evening :-D

Well, I’m no pro at all, but enjoy playing.  I got myself the XS8 for a reasonable price about a year ago (~USD4000), and would even do it again if I had to.  But where I live, the local currency price has dropped about 3.5%.  But with todays exchange rate, that price in USD would be ~4300, that’s including the 3.5% local price drop.

Don’t blame Yamaha for the exchange rate.  That your local shops choose to adjust the price to what people are *willing* to pay for it.  That’s also the core idea behind commercialism.  Somebody need to import those Yamaha synths from abroad as well, the importer needs to cover the expenses as well.

And if you don’t like the XS ... why are you here complaining?  I love it, and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people here love it too!  I love the sounds, the feeling of the keys and the atmosphere you can create with it.  If you don’t like that, it’s not the right device for you.

I wouldn’t buy a Rolce Royce if I wanted to compete in races with Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s ... I bought a Rolce Royce, because that was what I needed and wanted.

But I see you’re just jealous ... you want something to look like an Italian speed monster and the driving comfort and quality of the pure Rolce Royce ... But guess what, to get that comfort and quality, that got a price tag!

XS don’t look like an Italian speed monster, but can sound like that one. Not necesarly the pure jazzy Rolce Royce. At full potential, XS is something like Rolce Royce & Lamborghini. Is not so hard to use XS at full potential.

Im sure that SQUIRREL chipmunk don’t know how to use XS at full potential )))

Yes, it’s a pricey item. But I just picked up a new XS7, not factory restock, from Guitar Center for half the figure you cite, and that comes with what I imagine is a pricey little Cubase package that’s specifically integrated to the XS.

The price went up? I hadn’t heard that. Gee, I must have got in right under the wire. Wait a minute - they’re advertising the same price at Guitar Center. Huh?

foleycore7 - 13 March 2010 08:40 PM

...now its $5,500.

Canadian?

I purchased my XS8 for 2150 shipped and it came with a BOSS DR-880 drum machine.

Obviously this guy doesn’t know how to shop.

And working for a Music Store I purchased directly from Yamaha and paid 10% under dealer cost and it’s worth every penny....LOL

It is worth every penny of what dealers are getting for it.. I could have had a Fantom or Korg for much less and chose the Yamaha.

Why anyone would come into a Motif Thread and bash the KB we all have and enjoy is beyond my comprehension. I won’t even try to analyze that guy’s motives....

He’s from Australia… I checked his profile.

Apparently the price of pro keyboards are hopelessly inflated there.
