Hello,

Is it possible to change the tempo AND time signature in the middle of a piece in song mode? I saw some posts about pattern mode, but I’m stumped about programming these changes in the middle of a song.

I hope someone out there can help.

Thanks

first in pattern mode set up your time signutare in each patteren. then record your song in one bpm and record it then trasnsfer the pattern to a song. after that then figure where you want the time change and insert it and there you are

Yes it is possible In fact, if your SONG has multiple time signature and tempo changes in them you can actually create a time signature outline for your song and can build a tempo change template prior to recording. In this fashion as your record the music, you can have the sequencer automatically count and change to the predescribed time signature and tempo.

Although you can also change the Tempo after-the-fact, time signature is more than just drawing barlines, it is about feel. In other words, if you played something in 4/4 it does not become a waltz feel just because you tell the sequencer to count it differently.

To create a Time Signature template
Call up the SONG - song typically default to 4/4 time.
Press [JOB]
Select [F4] MEASURE
Select JOB 01: Create Measure
Press [ENTER]
Here you can select:
“Insertion Measure” - the point at which you want to change the time signature
“Number of measures” - the number of measures of the new time signature
“Time Signature” of inserted measures

If you have a chart of your composition you can easily create the measures of whatever time signatures you need at whatever point you need them. Now you when you record the XS sequencer will faithfully count the time signature for you adjusting the metronome.

Create a Tempo outline
Tempo in SONG mode has its own dedicated track
From the main SONG screen
Press [EDIT] to view the Event list
Press [F4] TR SELECT repeatedly. In the upper right corner you will see an indication of the selected track. This button will toggle between three types of tracks:
a Numbered Track
a SCENE TRACK - where you can store Track Mute and snapshot of mixer settings.
a TEMPO TRACK - where you can store tempo changes.

Select “TEMPO” - you can now insert a TEMPO change at any point in the song… again, this can be done before or after you record, your choice.

As to PATTERN mode, all PATTERN sections share the same tempo, until you create a PATTERN CHAIN. Logically, in order to have a tempo change, you must have a linear layout of the music.

Same with time signatures - all data within a Section, naturally, share the same time signature. Time signature changes can be inserted in a PATTERN CHAIN either by going to edit or they can be recorded in real time.

Thanks, Bad Mister,

That was exactly what I needed. The XS is a tremendous instrument, but can seem a bit complex to me at times. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with me and the rest of the Motifator followers.
