The Rack itself can hold 128 multi’s at one time, and came loaded from the factory with the Bank 1 preloaded.  As odd as this may sound, to load others, you do it one multi at a time and must over-write the 128 that are already there.

We didn’t load them into the rack the very first time one at a time.  And just to ask how exactly do you load them one by one?

The Motif-Rack XS does not have a PERFORMANCE mode, like the keyboard version. PERFORMANCE mode on the keyboard allows you to combine up to four Voices in four PARTS and play them on a single MIDI channel. You can see a demonstration of this here on Motifator (if you are unfamiliar with what PERFORMANCE mode is all about): MASTER CLASS DVD Preview

That’s yours truly, demonstrating the PERFORMANCE: (044) Clavi Jam

You can do this same kind of 4 PART performance thing with the Rack XS by activating the parameter called “LAYER 1-4 PARTS”
Press [UTILITY]
Select GENERAL > press [ENTER]
Scroll down to PAGE 2/5
Set “Layer 1-4Parts” = ON

Now when you transmit on the Basic Receive Channel, you will be triggering the first four PARTS of the MULTI (the equivalent to a PERFORMANCE in the keyboard XS).

To audition the MULTI LIBRARY, you need to setup the Motif-Rack XS Editor and bring it ONLINE.

_ On the main screen click on the NAME location on the “G” or Global/MULTI line… this will pull the MULTI LIBRARY over.

_ you can seach by name or you can simply click on a selection then click OK to bulk it to your Motif-Rack XS’s edit buffer (alternatively you can simply double click to do the same thing).

this transfers this data to your current MULTI and you can play it, look at the parameters, edit them, etc., etc. If you like it and want to keep it, simply press [STORE] on the Motif-Rack XS front panel, you will be offered a chance to select any MULTI location 001 through 128 to store this data. Press [ENTER] > [ENTER] to execute the transfer.

If you don’t like it simply select another from the MULTI LIBRARY and rinse and repeat…
