Based on the 1394ohci.sys indicator, I can’t help but wonder if perhaps you installed the 32bit YSFW driver? Given that you have 64bit OS but run AI4 in 32 bit mode, is it possible you went with the 32bit F/W driver? You should use the 64bit version. However, they have have the same version numbers, which is little confusing. It wouldn’t take long to check/remove and reinstall. Check for the filename “win_fw_v152x64.zip” on your PC. If that doesn’t work, then I’d recommend a compatible or “officially” supported chipset add-on FW card. I found a used one in my basement, but second hand shops are also a good place to look if you get stuck finding one cheap. |

No. I got the 64bit-drivers.

hello again! sorry for opening up this old thread, but i promsed results, which are still pending, but here’s a few more infos:
i tred a new pcie-fw-card (with xio 2200a chipset). same error.
fw-cards with chipsets supported by the driver (as stated on the yamaha-download-page) are old and hard to get by now. i found no pcie-card, but a few pci-cards. what’s difficult in my situation: the only accessable pci-slot on my mainboard is occupied by the sound-card. so here’s my thinking: soundcard out (which tbone suggested, because of the make), pci-fw-card in + pcie-sound-card in.
here’s my new question (sorry of being inconvient ;-)) :
thanks

Have you dealt with the fact the Cubase AI4.5.2 is a 32-bit application? That is, are you running it as a 32-bit application? That was the reason I recommended you speak to Steinberg support… they cannot tell you that his is a Yamaha issue, you simply want to know about Cubase AI4.5.2 and running it as a 32-bit app on your Windows 7/64-bit computer. (no Yamaha as a part of this question). If you don’t get an answer from Steinberg on their software, call Yamaha and ask about running AI4 on a 64-bit machine, they should be able to find out from Steinberg for you. |

Thanks for your fast response! Yes, I mentioned the 32bit-vs.-64bit-issue to the Steinberg support. They said: “no problem”. And in fact, Cubase is not the problem. In my “testings”, the PC also crashed without Cubase, or any other MIDI-using-program, ever being launched in the session! I find that rather curious! Remains the question about a new pcie-soundcard for combining MIDI & VSTi. Please let me know your suggestions.
Thanks

Indeed, this is curious. Did you capture the error messages?
As for a sound card, I am not sure what to recommend for your PC. I would think what you have is okay for PC related stuff. Your Motif XS8 also has a sound card, so I would use that for Music purposes, once you stablize the crash/conflicts. Post the errors, in case there are some clues. What did you change right before these issues started? |

I sent a whole bunch of debug-files to MS-support. That’s a typical info i got:
Their suggestion was:
But they are Win7/64. So no solution from there. So the nearest suggestion, i think, is to try a yamaha-supported chipset.
What do you use for a soundcard? |

I can conferm. Sound blaster cards XFI Titanium wich is 3 cards in one(Music, Audio, Games) are extremly bad for DAW amplication, befor i bought my audio interface EMU1616m, i had sound plaster card wich i still have and use it only for games, but for reccording it was nightmare, so probably u have the same issues.... I would saggest u to buy a good audio interface..... |

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. But for now, mLan-Audio (also thanks for the audio-routing-tutorial) is sufficient for recording. And the quality is really good. A bit soft, but you can boost the signal undistorted easily to the max. |
