Guys,

I have buddy who gigs with a blues / Rock band. He’s looking to up his game and get more involved ( he has up to now, only taken part in very few songs ), but he’s not wonderfully dexterous.

What he wants to know is can the XS, through it’s performance mode ( I couldn’t really explain what the intelligent arpeggos would or would not allow him to do ) can it give him effectively single finger chords ??  My question would be what happens for minor chords etc....

Anybody good enough with the ole’ programming skills to answer how easy it would be ??

Also - Could he do this with any of the older MOTIF lineup ??

Mark.

The answer is no - there is no automatic chord feature on the XS, or any
other Motif. Your friend will have to at least know how to play the chords himself and what they are.

Some of the performances feature bass lines or rhythm chords playing patterns depending on the type of chord you are holding down with your fingers. When you change the chord you hold down, the chord patterns and
bass lines “magically” change along with it to recognize the new chord
you are playing.

Thanks Dave, I guess that’s strike one.

So hows about a little more obscure method. I’m thinking along the lines of maybe a mix set of 3 or 4 “groups” of layered sounds, each layer offset to make a chord, the board being split so that you could layer a different set to make the minor chords ??

Would that work ? or am I talking out of my backside ??

Obviously that would take a little doing, but I’m sure I may be able to help him with that.

Better to learn proper keyboard technique if you’re part of a decent band.

Playing chords is quite simple once you get the hang of it anyway.

Sarcasm aside, I have to agree with the previous post.

Your friend needs to learn how to play chords. Sorry, I just can’t make
any other suggestion.

yes
you can do that layer stuff but need to tweak with the voice/performance/multi settings.
it all depends on how much complex is what you are trying to achieve.

If was as simple as learning chords, believe me I’d take the easy route. He has a problem with his hands that mean he will never be as dexterous as most of us lucky people. For his hand to span one chord is real struggle, and to change between chords is going to be a real problem for him. I’m here to try and make his life a little easier :o)
