I have a question and need some input: Is Motif Rack ES and Windows 7 a bad combination?

I have had a Motif Rack, Cubase VST 5.1 and Windows XP and it worked just fine until the day I decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 7 (Win7).

- Win7 does not have a built-in midi mapper which I found to be quite annoying (same problem with Vista). But I found a tweak that did the midi mapping to the USB port. And then…

- Then I found that my Cubase complains about the ASIO Multi Setup not getting audio signal from the stupid Win7 (no audio recording possible).

- Cubase keeps showing MIDI Output to “Microsoft GS Wavetable” (signal sent back to my notebook sound card).

If the combo is bad, what do you suggest? Back to XP and cuss at Microsoft? Buy new Cubase? Buy new MOTIF? what is the best fix for me?

Appreciate your time.

Is Motif Rack ES and Windows 7 a bad combination?

New Studio Manager Editors have been scheduled for release in March for the Motif Rack ES. The priority was for the current products and older products will soon catch up (so any day now)

You can see the Updated Schedule at the official Yamaha Synth site: http://www.yamahasynth.com/

Window 7 update schedule

Please let us know, what issues, if any, you are having once these new versions arrive.

Of course, Cubase VST (what year was that?)… I just re-read your post and realized you were talking about “Cubase VST”, that is very old, so the issues you may be having could be due to that… You may want to contact someone at Steinberg tech support - they will have a history on that version.

Thank you BM,

I failed to ask further detail, hopefully, this next set of Q’s would help me understand it further since Window OS is not quite as forgiving as I would expect it to be:

1. After installing the new USB-MIDI driver (for Win7), the Yamaha driver icon in the Win7’s Control Panel was available for making MIDI output change. However, any setting in there does not seem to affect Win7’s “default” (which prompted me to look elsewhere for a temp fix). Question: Is there a “right” way to route the MIDI output? What is it? I tried to look for user guide of the driver at Yamaha website but no info.

2. I have both MOTIF Rack and MOTIF Rack ES. :-). The SQ01 for both are available. I would like to do away with Cubase VST/32 entirely, and only use SQ01.  But are the SQ01 usable/compatible with Win7 (haven’t tried but would like to know ahead of time rather than crashing the OS). Also, if not, what are my options?

Thanks.
