just visited GC & fell in love with the (relatively) new Roland V’s piano’s PHA III keyboard ivory feel & key action - was literally about to shell-out serious savings $ to buy XS8 (want Motif XS system & want 88 keys) - but now would love to marry these 2 (the Roland V piano’s PHA III keys/action and all benefits of the Motif XS system) - I beseech you Great Blogging Wizards of All Things Motif, help this lowly, humble (and likely ignorant) Motif fan by answering my Q’s below (seriously - much thanks if you do)

Question A: can the marriage be performed (can I use the new Roland) as an external keyboard hooked up to the XS 6, 7 or 8 so that the Roland V piano triggers everything in the Motif XS machine/software (as if the built-in Motif XS keyboard were being used - but in reality I’m playing the Roland V hooked up to the Motif XS) ?

A1: if so, what functionality (if any) would I lose (from the Motif system) if the Roland V triggers the XS8?  (any latency or loss of use of the wonderful Motif recording, arp’s, midi in’s & outs, pedals, voices or other functions?

A2: if the marriage is possible and thus I wouldn’t need 2 sets of 88 keys, if the marriage is between the Roland V piano and only the (lesser than 88 keyed) XS 6 or 7, what compromise or lose of functionality would result by the marriage not being between the Roland V and the XS8?

Question B: can it (only) be done with XS Rack? (no rack jokes please, it’s a Platonic thang) - disadvantages/advantages to marrying the Roland V to XS Rack vs. to XS 6, 7 or 8

many thanks for your taking the time to answer— I’ve only been saving/planning this for years! . . . and just as I was about to lay down the savings $ on the Motif XS88 at the store, I wandered over and played the new Roland V piano and those ivory key feel and keyboard action just GOT ME and made the XS8 keys seem (for me, it’s subjective of course) feel plasticky and clunky - I guess it’s “gettin’ nervous at the alter” time but I really believe - it if and the laws of California & Nature would allow it, the polygamous marriage of the 2 (Roland V piano’s PHA III keyboard ivory feel & key action with the Motif XS system with moi would make for a champagne honeymoon!  - but how to do marry them in the most efficient and least-loss-of-functionality way?
