Greetings one n all,

I hope i can get some help here.
Im confused about my setup and i have been searching for a solution to my flexible work methods that i will explain.

I have an mlan studio setup consisting of:
01x mixer
I88x Expander
Motif ES Rack
Akai MPC 2500
usb midi controller

I want to be able to use the mpc and the motif rack es without having to disconnect the 01x midi i/o into the mpc midi i/o

I use the motif rack es in cubase 4.5 with no problems and
to further confuse the issue,i have a total of 3 midi i/o
(01x x 2, & I88x x 1)

The motif rack has midi i/o and a thru port and what is confusing me is how to connect the ports together to work seemlessly without having to plug out of the 01x and into the mpc.

If I could get some help, assistance,or advice regarding this, i would be really gratrfull.

thanks for reading.

Tomm[/size]

Can you post a screenshot of your Graphic Patchbay MIDI view…

As long as you know what the ports are identified as you should have not problem routing signals anywhere you need them.

Hi Mr Mister

Thanks for the quick reply.

As requested, GP Midi view does not want tp upload for some strange reason(an oversight on my part maybe,apologies) but i can tell you that the midi is connnected as follows (if my memory works correctly).
Midi
01X out 1 - 5 ---> PC in 1 - 5
01X in 1 - 5 ---> PC out 1-5
i88X out ---> PC in 9
(the other inputs are grayed out)

any help or suggestions would be appreciated

I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!

Thanks
Tommtom

Whatever you connect to the 01X’s MIDI A ports will appear in your system as “mLAN MIDI IN (2)” and “mLAN MIDI OUT (2)”
Whatever you connect to the 01X’s MIDI B Ports will appear in your system as “mLAN MIDI IN (3)” and “mLAN MIDI OUT (3)”

We don’t really have any details on your controller keyboard - ie, you don’t mention if you are connecting it using USB to your computer or you are connecting it to one of the available 5-pin MIDI ports.

For example, if you connected the keyboard’s MIDI OUT jack to the i88X MIDI IN port it would appear in your system as “mLAN MIDI IN (9)

So you could, for example, connect the MPC to 01X Port A
Connect the Motif-Rack ES to 01X Port B
Connect the keyboard to the i88X MIDI in port.

The 01X has five MIDI IN and FIVE MIDI OUT ports, as follows:
Port 1 is used so that the 01X can be a remote control surface for your supported DAW (Cubase, Sonar, Logic, Digital Performer)
Port 2 is the MIDI A 5-pin IN/OUT jacks on the back panel and lets you connect an external MIDI device into your system
Port 3 is the MIDI B 5-pin IN/OUT jacks on the back panel and lets you connect a second external MIDI device into your system.
Port 4 is used by the 01X Studio Manager Editor giving you bi-directional and simultaneous control over the 01X via the computer editor.
Port 5 is the “GENERAL” port and can be used either to control an external hardware Yamaha synthesizer (like you Motif-Rack ES… yest you can select sounds, control volumes, pan, etc, of your Motif-Rack ES right from the front panel of the 01X) or it can be used to recall “SCENES” (Scenes are like snapshot of your 01X settings - these can be recalled from a sequencer, thus automating control of the mixer - much like sending a Program Change event to the mixer to recall a particular setup).

If you ever forget these you can view their function by going to the following screen in the 01X:
Press [UTILITY]
Press [KNOB 6]
Use the PAGE SHIFT DISPLAY Cursor to move to screen 5 “mLAN MIDI INFORMATION” - this screen is simply to remind you how your 5 MIDI ports are used.
