hallo i have only one arp in the motif es and not enough money for an xs. so there is my question: when i record an arpegiated voice there comes only the note i hit on the keyboard in cubase. but i want to record all notes of the arpegio. is there a way to do it? then i could use the one arp in motif for another voice. is it clear what i mean? greetings. |

When you touch the keys of the Motif ES what normally goes out the MIDI OUT is the MIDI information of keys that you have actually pressed… If you think about it - this is the way you want it in most every situation, except when you are recording the ARP data OUT via MIDI. When you want to record the arpeggio generated data OUT via MIDI you must turn that function ON, and select a MIDI channel for that data to go out on. The notes that you play (we’ll call these the trigger notes) you do not want to record. So you must additionally stop these from going out via MIDI. Because all you want to record is the note data generated by the arpeggio pattern. For example, say you are using a Guitar arpeggio… you might simply hold down a C7 chord for 4 measures… but what you want to record to Cubase is the guitar strumming pattern that is being generated by the arpeggio pattern. The “trigger notes” (your key presses) must be sent to the ES arpeggiator (directly) and then the arpeggiator generates the pattern which you route Out via MIDI. So contrary to how you would normally work with an external DAW sequencer, you must set LOCAL CONTROL = ON. This way your note presses go to the arpeggiator… first. You also must change how the track in the DAW sequencer routes the MIDI data… you DO NOT want to echo it back to the Motif ES… you want the arp data to “DEAD END” in the computer! (Very important - otherwise you will be arpeggiating the arpeggio) lol!
So you need to prevent the trigger notes from going out via MIDI and you need to send the arpeggio data out via MIDI.
So recording the arpeggio to an external sequencer is not a simple matter. It is at the deep end of the pool, but once you understand what needs to be done, it is fairly straight ahead. There is a step-by-step article that covers what you must do in the SUPPORT area here on Motifator - it was written for the Motif ES and Cubase SX3 but you will be able to follow it with whatever version of Cubase you are now using. If you get stuck or have a question simply post back here. |
