Hi, First time poster here.
very similar issue as these posters:
Heres the short of it. Using Mac book pro, Logic 8, Motif ES 6 Have the latest updated USB driver, and OS. I have been through the manuals and these forums, and it seems that quite a few other people are having the same issue. USB connection is made, but I am unable to use any studio manager features (voice editor, sq) due to time out error. My routing is all in accordance with Bad Mister’s recommendations in the above posts, but I still only get time out errors. ALSO, when I use the USB to connect with Logic, I am unable to use all of the transport functions. Play control makes a small unending loop that I have to reboot to stop. I have seen that some of the posters with these issues have not received responses. I hope I am not one. My sense is that it is an issue with the new driver, because previous drivers have worked (at least in Logic). I also wonder if there is a work around for this issue with an out board midi interface? Thank you |

Welcome to the forums… Well, let’s eliminate Logic from the equation and see if you can communicate between your Motif ES and the Studio Manager without Logic running. This will tell us whether or not the problem is with the combination or not. Make sense? On your Mac, go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES > find the “Yamaha USB-MIDI” icon > click it verify version Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver V1.2.1
Boot Studio Manager V2.3.2
1.08 is the latest… Press [EXIT] as indicated to return to normal bootup.
On the Motif ES
Back to STUDIO MANAGER:
Select the “MIDI SETTINGS” tab
Select the “Preferences” tab - set Studio Manager Prefereces to “Automatically synchronize on file load”
VOICE Editor
Set the “MIDI In Port” = Yamaha Motif ES Port 1
Now you can attempt to Transmit (fourth icon) or Receive (fifth icon); or you can go to SETUP > Transmit VOICE Bulk or Receive VOICE Bulk; or you can use COMMAND + T or COMMAND + R; to activate the transfers.
Attempt to RECEIVE a VOICE bulk from the ES.
If you get a BULK Time Out Error:
Open the Multi-Part Editor
Set the “MIDI In Port” = Yamaha Motif ES Port 1
Channel 1 = to match the Basic MIDI receive Channel of your ES.
On the Motif ES, place the instrument in SONG mode (or PATTERN mode) - these are your MULTI-PART modes.
On the Editor go to SETUP and attempt to RECEIVE a MULTI BULK - this will take 1sec. The Editor will indicate the VOICES assigned to each of the 16 PARTS and indicate all the MIXING mode settings (faders, pan position, EFF Sends, etc., etc.)
Again, if you have issues with TIME OUT ERRORS take the same actions. First, simply re-try it at the same settings. Let us know. We just did this step-by-step with a MacBookPro and Motif ES7… and it works fine. |

Bad Mister,
I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled Midi Driver 1.2.1, and SM2 2.3.2 before walking through the steps you provided. Running 1.08 in the Motif by the way. The only thing I did differently than the hundreds of times I have done this before was disconnect the motif from the USB hub on the computer (as per another thread I read on this site).
I am very happy to be fully connected and communicating with Studio Manager, and am very grateful for that.
I am still having difficulty controlling Logic from the ES.
This is what I am experiencing:
I am set to USB in the Mo, I have tried deleting control surface in logic and control surface preference file and letting logic rescan. The control surface comes up as Logic control. Ports are automatically set to USB 4 for logic control.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks again |
