Hello
So…
I am running a macbook 10.5.8
Motif Editor 1.3.0
SM 2.3.2
Yamaha USB MIDI Driver at Current version

In stand alone mode of editor operation I keep getting a TIMEOUT Error.
My port setting are in line with the manuals recommendation of port settings.
Its my understanding that port 4 is the communication port for the editor and that it should be routed with the input of port 4 being port 1 and the output being port 4. it was setup this way by default in the CUbase AI editor.I’ve tried every conceivable MIDI routing to no avail. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled all apps. I’ve even tried using the VST editor inside Cubase AI and I still get the same timeout error.

Someone please help!

Thanks

Aaron

The Motif-Rack XS will not recognize or come online with the Motif Editor… you have to have the “Motif-Rack XS Editor” version 1.3.0

The Motif-Rack XS has its own Editor make sure you have correct editor, you cannot use the keyboard version of the Editor.

When you launch Studio Manager:
Under the “SM2” on the menu bar select “PREFERENCES”
ADD the Motif-Rack XS to your WORKSPACE

Select the MIDI SETTING tab and make the following settings:
INPUT PORTS
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 1
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 3
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 4

OUTPUT PORTS
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 1
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 3
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 4

Check MIDI THRU
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 3 - on the Input Port side
YAMAHA Motif-R XS Port 1 - on the Output Port side

Check the SET DEFAULT box
Click APPLY
Click OK

Port 1 is for normal MIDI communication (note-on, controllers, etc).
Port 3 is for your MIDI keyboard controller plugged into the MIDI IN jack on the back panel of the Motif-Rack XS.
Port 4 is for bi-directional and simultaneous communication between the Editor and the Rack XS when the Editor is ONLINE

Next launch the Motif-Rack XS Editor by clicking on its icon.
Go to FILE > SETUP…
Setup the ports as in the screen shot below:

Thanks for the quick reply....but

I was using the XS editor (sorry for not clarifying)

I set everything up as suggested and I am now getting an Incorrect Hardware message.

I am using an Maudio 88 es via USB as a master controller, so I set up the ports per the attached JPG.

I am now able to trigger the motif xs with my master controller, but the editor is still offline.

Also, I do not have an area at the top of the auto sync screen that shows a MIDI KBD IN like your picture.

I am still not able to use port 4 to get the editor online. I keep getting an incorrect hardware error.

I have also attached a JPG of my SM2 port setup.

Please help

Thanks

Aaron

Sorry, I can’t read your Data Port Setup screen shot… but even from what I can see, it is fairly apparent that you have installed the wrong editor. The Motif XS and the Motif-Rack XS are two separate products - each has its own editor.

If you look closely at the screen shot that I posted there is no MIDI entry for MIDI IN on PORT 1… and there is a DATA PORT > MIDI KB IN…

Yours looks very much like the setup for the XS, not the Rack XS.
Once you have the correct Editor, if you still have issues, let us know.
