My Motif Rack XS has an mLAN card which I route thru my MR816CSX and then bring in as 8 stereo tracks from my Motif and into my DAW’s firewire . These stereo tracks I use for up to 8 instruments in a multi . When I set up the Cubase 5 VST connections , after making sure the Motif’s 16 mono buses are visable in Cubase 5’s device manager , and then setting up the Motif’s editor mixer to route my multi to their appropriate stereo buses that I have set up in VST connections everything runs absolutely perfect . Then I save the Cubase 5 project file and then when I restart the project again the Motif’s 16 mono buses are not visable in Cubase’s Device manager and the Motif’s 8 stereo buses are no longer visable or connected in VST connections . I then have to start setting up the original routing again which is a painfull work around . Is anybody else using Cubase 5 64 bit with Motif Rack Xs ( mLAN And 64 bit Motif editor ) with the MR816 and having the same problem. |

Please see the following article from the SUPPORT area on setting up the Motif XS for use within Cubase 5 as an EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT (it works exactly the same for the Motif-Rack XS). Take a look at the article linked below… This is how I have my Motif XS and Motif-Rack XS setup within Cubase 5. It let’s me have a template where I can use any combination of mono and/or stereo output buses from either device when necessary. Let us know if you get stuck. |

Thank you very much Bad_Mister for the advice . I take it that even though I use Cubase 5 64 bit with Vista 64 , which does not require studio manager , that I will still have the same results if I use Cubase 5 external instruments set up ? |

Not sure what you mean by “does not require Studio Manager"… (?) The Motif-Rack XS Editor requires Studio Manager in order to run. If you do not want to use Studio Manager you will have to Link the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT to a “script” (Device) and address it as an “External Plug-in” in the VST INSTRUMENT rack. Image Attachments

When running the Motif Rack XS with Cubase 5 64 bit on Vista 64 bit OS you only install Motif Rack XS 64 bit Extentions and 64 bit Editor . I then run it as a VST from the VST Instruments . I found information regarding the install on the Yamaha S90 forum .

If you are using the VST Editor then you will have 8 stereo pairs of audio outputs available… in your original post you mentioned you wanted to have mono outputs, I assumed, in addition to some stereo output options. I addressed this by showing you a method to have both mono and stereo outputs available as you might require. The Motif-Rack XS Editor VST - is what it is and opens the door for all versions of Cubase from the AI on up to take advantage of audio integration. It does though only provide a set method of routing. But since you have Cubase 5 you have an opportunity to configure the outputs as you desire - but this requires you address the Motif-Rack XS as an EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT - if you cannot run Studio Manager (because you are running 64-bit) then you need to address the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT with a Motif-Rack XS Script as your LINKED MIDI DEVICE… If you prefer to use the Motif-Rack XS Editor VST - please realize that the port configuration is always 8 stereo pairs. |

Bad_Mister Is there a way to accomplish the same thing (having some mono outputs as well as stereo outputs) but with Cubase AI4? AI4 does not have the “External Instruments” tab on the VST Connections.
Thanks,

As I just answered in your thread… the full version of Cubase 5 offers more flexibility when it comes to routing decisions (and I guess that is as it should be, because the full version should be more powerful). If you want to route both mono and stereo outputs from your Motif-Rack XS, you should really look into upgrading to Cubase 5. Is it more powerful than Cubase AI4, trust me, as powerful as the free version is, Cubase 5 really is so much more flexible - if you are seeking to selectively route some PARTS mono and others as stereo - you have that ability in the full version, and more. AI is provided to give the user a sneak peek at what is possible. When I first saw the implementation of the advanced Audio Integration in AI, I was quite impressed - it truly does serve as a kind of real introduction to the full power of the advanced routing available when you ‘buy’ into the full version of Cubase music production software. Because each project is different and because there is not going to be just one way to work, you really start to appreciate the flexibility. Remember, the only reason you are given Cuabse AI when you purchase the Motif-Rack XS is to introduce you to the world of computer-based recording. It is a shameless attempt to whet your appetite for the full version… I don’t think anyone at the company would deny this… the only question at the company is “Is AI too powerful?” lol… admittedly it is more than most people need. But if you are looking for the cutting edge, and a no-compromise professional DAW for music production, Cubase 5 is the ticket. |
