The pitch shifting is a fixed interval effect and doesn’t react to the shape of chords or sequence of notes played into it. If you are referring to something like the harmonizer in the PLG-VH board, which understands to some extent what you are playing and generates dynamic harmonies based on specific scales then there isn’t one in the XS, and there never will be. The XS isn’t that kind of device, and nor should it be; the output from harmonizers is simple and predictable and can be exceeded by anyone with the most basic grasp of musical theory. If you want a device which effectively composes music for you, then an arranger keyboard will suit you far better. The XS is designed with different objectives in mind. Df. |

Hi Dreamflight, I saw this thread and decided to pop in, and funny thing, cause today i’ve been looking at the differences and crossovers between arrangers (which i agree, I don’t really like that much) and the workstatsions like the motif, but I like what the motif has done in terms of the crossover with the arpeggiator and phrase based aprs, and the root note etc.. I would like to see more of that in newwer seq workstations like the motif. Its the only one on the market that really seems to do this well so far, but now I find myself wanting more of it, but not from an arranger in that.. its just.. too simple lol :) I just made a post about the motif above that somewhat relates to this topic, and there are a few links to other places that talks about the crossovers that people seem to be craving. |

Dude, Get a TC Helicon Voiceworks...it can do harmonies and so much more. If you want something cheaper, get Digitech, which is pretty good too. Just get some good audio cables and plug the harmonizer into the Motif XS input and control it via MIDI (Midi cable from MIDI out of XS to MIDI in of the harmonizer). |

Yamaha had the PLG100-VH (1997-2007) which was a vocal harmony board that could be used in synthesizers like the MU90R, MU128, etc, the S80, CS6x, original Motif, Motif ES, etc. That board technology is no longer available. Yamaha is not looking to revive the Vocal Harmony function as in the PLG100-VH DID YOU KNOW: The Motif XS has a Vocoder built-in. You are not clear in your post what type of “harmonizer function” you wish to have… A Vocal Harmony function often is mistaken with a Vocoder. Although the Vocal Harmony function is an effect for a vocal microphone input, the VOCODER is quite different; It is an effect for a synth sound that uses the microphone’s input as a modifier. It allows you to ‘play’ your voice - it literally encodes your vocal to the pitch of the synth. Before you spend any money, you should try the Vocoder… just on the outside chance this is what you are looking for in the first place.
