Does anyone have an idea on how to get a Motif rack into a live performance? Here is what I am trying to do. I play gigs where I do bass left hand and various keyboards, usually piano EP, Hammond, on right hand. I need to switch between sounds during songs. I also am very weight sensitive. I have no desire to drag a heavy keyboard around town. I would love to use a Yamaha NP30 or KX8 (which I have). I need some method to change the sounds fast on the MOTIF. The Multis only go one program at a time. If I have bass and piano on mulit 01 and bass and piano/strings on multi 11, it aint gonna happen. Is there a way to make this happen, a small box I can do program changes with, maybe a light MIDI controller that would do the job? I need some help from someone who knows this stuff. I am a player more than a keyboard programmer. I hate this stuff but I have to do it. Thank you for any assistance/ and or comments. |

Good luck. It seems that everything today is pointed at the home studio musician sitting in front of their computer. I use my Motif ES as the controller for my Rack XS, but this probably is not what you’re looking to do. You may want to consider trading off the rack and going with a keyboard, such as the new S70XS, It looks like it will do everything you need and weighs 44 pounds. Comes out pretty soon. Yes by default, part one is set to channel midi 1 , part 2 to channel midi 2, etc etc. But you can change it. You can set the part 2 to channel midi 1 and have a layer or split of two voices. You can set the part 3 also to channel midi 1 and have 3 voices playing ( layer or split, for split you need to program it on your editor). You can set the part 4 to channel midi 2 and with your master keyboard change channel 1 to channel 2 to change voices with crossfade ........ You can done a lot of configurations with multi mode, that’s not just a 16 part playing on one midi channel by part. |

Thanks, guys. I am making progress. I think an S70 may be what the doctor ordered for me. I am making progress, however. I have discovered that you can jump the multis and voices 10 at a time by holding the up arrow and hitting the down arrow simultaneously. I think you are right. Most people must sit at their computer and play. The KX8 is designed specifically for that. The guy that sold it to me plays with a KX8 and a laptop. Wow. I have a lot to learn. I don’t buy keyboards often (the one I’m replacing is a Korg T2)… Its a new world for sure Thanks for your help ! |

After two weeks, I have decided to go with the S70x. It has to be easier than what I am trying to do. Does any body know when it will ship to the stores? |

Hi, I have a combination of EX5 and Novation Remote61 as master keyboards (and sounds on the EX of course), controlling my Racks (including a Motif ES). To do fast switching whilst I’m playing (and to provide my foot pedal controllers) I have a Roland FC300 MIDI foot controller, which is an amazingly flexible device. And one little know feature of the Remote61 is you can switch patches on that and it doesn’t cut off any held notes, so you can facilitate some really smooth changes with this combination. |

Thanks for your help. I am going for the S70. It is designed to do exactly what I am trying to do. A cheaper and lighter alternative would have been great, but its not working for me. I am very excited to get my hands on it !!! Tom |
