Um i am a little concerned about the usb storage of my motif es. I have a 500G external hard drive and it funcions prefectly. But recently I bought a 4G pendrive to make a backup for few of my song files and the keyboard recognizes it, but when i try to fromat it the screen shows “unknown error -1”. Also when i try to save a song to the pendrive it says that the disk or device is “full” and actualy there’s nothing in there… Does the keyboard’s usb port has a flash memory reading limit??

If someone is able to address this, I’ve actually got the same issue with a USB memory stick that came with my digital camera - my ES8 won’t format it, with the same error message (unknown error -1).

Is this because of its being designed for camera files and nothing else??
Thanks in advance.

Some USB sticks come pre-loaded with PC software which can confuse the issue. Others may have odd content stored on them which causes an issue. Try plugging the USB stick into a PC or MAC and formatting it from there, wiping any preloaded content in the process. Then re-try it in the synth.

Also, double check that it hasn’t got any hardware ‘write protect’ switch/feature on it which would preclude formatting.

Df.

I’ll give that a shot, Eddy. Thanks!

One possibility is that the USB pen drive has “U3” software on it. Check out this thread for information on how to remove this software.

Make sure when you format the pen drive you are using FAT32 format. By default I think Windows uses NTFS format.

I’m pretty sure that even formatting a flash drive with U3 on it does not remove that software.
