This is my first real project since getting the Rack-XS and my first post here. A cover of an old Colin Blunstone track. I hope it’s worthy of your attention. I’d appreciate any tips on improving this track but be kind; I’m a balding beginner and do it for fun (probably a good thing!). Thanks in advance for your input. Cheers |

I like the mix very much. It’s so warm and cozy. I especially like the E. piano in the background, gives the song some nice colors without taking away too much from the concept. Regarding the hiss in the beginning and the end, you can just trim it with any audio editing software ( audacity etc..). Oh, and the volume in the Sax track should be a “tiny” bit lower in my opinion. Other than that , good stuff. Keep it up. |

Thanks guys; very encouraging and supportive (I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything less from the Motifator group). Not sure what the problem is with the static/hiss at the start and end of the track; I haven’t heard this myself but will check again. It’s probably just my old ears that didn’t spot it :-) I haven’t got the most sophisticated set up for producing audio files but I’ll try cleaning it up… |

Listening now. I think the Sax could do with a little vibrato, especially on sustained notes to give it a little more expression - it sounds a tiny bit too ‘pristine’ to me. I think it might be worth just applying a touch of EQ to the sax as well, to take the edge off the high frequencies - this may be a personal opinion - but it sounds just slightly harsh, especially on the higher notes when played with a little volume. The rest is good, nice mix, clean sound. If you listen to it on headphones you’ll hear the ‘buzzing’ before and after the track, but that’s nothing serious and doesn’t detract from the music itself. Thank you all very much for your encouraging words; just the thing to keep me plugging away. I’ve resisted commenting on others work here as I don’t feel qualified, but needless to say I’m impressed by all the submissions. A little reluctant to post my own given the obvious breadth of musical talent out there but I’m now glad I did. I’ve taken on board all the suggestions (thanks Dreamflight) and will revisit the track based on these. The Funk Master - I was aiming for a live sound/feel, so it’s good to know that you felt I achieved this. Cheers |

Kkarlv,
Even if a hundred people tell me “it sucks,” that’s actually better than nothing. They might even be nice enough to tell me why it sucks, and I can then decide whether or not to change it to their liking. Call it part of the process, like the pre-screening of a movie. For me, that’s the benefit of having this forum. If someone says it sucks because its a classical piece and they hate classical, that’s generally not a reason to change anything. Because at the end of the day, it only matters if YOU are happy with what you’ve created. So...I wouldn’t let the talent here intimidate you, but rather...let it reassure you that some of the people giving the feedback might just know a thing or two about making songs. Big deal. Most important thing is to have fun with it, regardless of what anyone else says.
Keep your penny, those thoughts are free :)

Kkarlv: First off, like a few of the other Mo Folks here have noted, I am so much an amature that my comments for what they are worth rate somewhere a little lower than the belly of a worm LOL. With that said, I do agree with Jerry that this song has a kind of live feel to it. Like you sat a boom box down in the room and recorded near the mains. As for suggestions and comments, I think this song would fit very well with either a female vocal or a Babyface male type voice. It also kind of reminds of Clapton’s Unplugged version of “Tears in Heaven”. Great easy listening stuff my friend. All the best, Toney |
