hi guys

i am using my rack es via usb, hence midi settings are internal and usb.
I am using it as a master and wanting to sync my korg tr61 via midi clock.
I have a midi cable from the midi out on the es to the midi in on the tr61.
The tr61’s midi clock is set to external
Transmit and receive channels are all set to 1
My problem is the tr61 doesnt seem to be receiving midi clock from the es.
My question is… with the es midi setting set to usb, will it output midi clock via midi out ?

thanks

chris

No, it won’t.  When you set the MIDI IN/OUT to USB, the IN/OUT ports basically become just an external MIDI port that you can access via your sequencer.

If you want the MIDI data being generated by the MOTIF (which is then sent via USB to the host) to be sent back out the MIDI OUT port, you’ll need to configure the software on your PC to echo from the USB MIDI IN back out the external MIDI OUT.

Thanks Tony
I thought as much, but just wanted to check.
I suppose alternatively I could set the tr61’s midi clock to EXTERNAL-USB.
Thanks for your solution Tony.

hey tony,

bascially all i am trying to achieve is :

I am using a usb keyboard, es rack usb connected to my pc running cubase le.
I am also using a korg tr61 which is also usb connected and can be midi cable connected as well.
I want the es to be the master and the tr61 the slave.

So I just want to route the es’s midi clock to the tr61.
the tr61 can receive midi clock via external or ext-usb

Whats the best method ?

thanks in advance
chris

This probably isn’t what you want to hear, but, given the description:  The best thing is to make CUBASE the master and everything else a slave.

After all, it’s much more difficult to change the clock rate in the RACK than it is in Cubase…

Thanks anyway Tony but i found a work around.

How this drama came about is , the midi keboard I am using only works via usb, some bug with the midi out (old evolution keyboard)
Anyway,so I could run the in/out of the ES on MIDI ,I remembered I had an old midi cable to run from the game port of a sound card to in/out midi.
This works a treat
And now midi clock sharing down the line with the ES running the show.
Your previous reply bascially got me thinking in that direction.
Good on ya mate
Thanks

Chris
