I am trying to do a real time audio export of 3 tracks (VST instruments) 30 bars long. When I go to export I get a message that says “Not enough space on disk available for export”. There should be plenty of space as I have 500 gigs available. Any thoughts? Bill :) |

That may suggest that some of your settings are incorrect. Please tell us in detail what you are doing...e.g. L and R locators set correctly and not reversed? Tracks to a master bus? Bus assigned to...? Settings used in Export dialogue? ...........frank |

Well, I rebooted the machine and tried it again and I did not get that same message (so it exported fine). I am still scratching my head. Here are some of the particulars of what I was doing. I was taking 3 VST Midi tracks (30 measures/bars long), and wanting to export them as an aiff file. I was exporting all 3 tracks a the same time. I went into File/Export/Audio Mixdown from the Export Submenu.. From there, I had stereo outputs (L&R;) selected. The filename I had set as my project name. Bit depth was 32 bit (I also tried 16 and 24 bit and it all failed). Real Time Export box was checked. I did not have it import into the pool or project. I has the patch for the file to go to as my secondary drive (also tried my primary drive). In every case it said I did not have enough space. Bill :) |

Hi Frank, Thanks for the response. I agree with you that It is best to export to audio one track at a time. In the case where I did all three tracks at once, I was just trying to make a quick MP3 so I could email my sequence idea to a friend. Normally I would do each track separately, then do a final stereo track for the audio file. I do recall in the users manual that it talks about when you export a few tracks at once, it may be to too much processing at once, and it will resort to doing one track at a time. It implies that the program will automatically switch from doing all the tracks at the same time, to doing one track at a time. Bill :) |

And we probably can assume this time that it’s not the number of tracks, rather the type of tracks (MIDI>VSTi(s))and how audio had to first be generated by VSTi(s) as part of the same Export process you were trying. Should be no problem exporting numerous audio tracks at one time though. Anyway, pleased you were successful..........frank |

The reboot may supply a clue.
If, before your Cubase session, you were doing something on your pc, it could be that a process started that took up CPU and memory (RAM) so perhaps the message had to do with insufficient RAM rather than insufficient HD space.
Things like on demand on-line TV viewing can take up a lot of RAM. A Google toolbar/desktop can also add significantly as can I-tunes and these are not system critical so stopping them shouldn’t cause a system crash. Of course, the best solution is a music only pc, with limited internet and minimal add ons except those for music. A reboot may well have stopped some of those processes and not restarted them. A thought for you all :) |
