Do you guys have any suggestions how to achieve the typical trombone slides on the XS8. I do not really the english word for it, but those old fashion trombones with that shifting gear forward backwards to make that slide sound. Ofcourse you can do something with the mod.wheel, but is there a more controlable way to achieve that sliding effect. Jan |

pitch bend looks to me the right controller. You can set the range higher then +2,-2. I suggest 5 or 4.

Sorry, I ment pitch bend (the left wheel). Bedankt voor de suggestie. I will experiment with the range settings and saee what the result will be. However, I think to play a slide trombone well seems almost an impossible task on a synethesizer. Jan |

What comes to mind first, would be to use portamento, legato and monophonic sound. granted, you will only be able to play one note at a time, but. you will be able to slide up or down. to any note, exactly. not beyond it. let me check and see if this works. you can also set up either an assign knob, or a AF button to change the speed at which the legato speed changes. One moment, i will check my idea on my motif :) Edit: there are already some presets that might work. check out the Blown Bone Legato patch.pre 4:081(f01) You can tweak the glide speed in edit. make an AF button switch between fast (playing mode) and slow (slide mode) Edit again: not sure if its exactly what you are looking for, but i tried it like this.. Grab the blown bone legato patch, press edit, go to ctrl set(f4) change the setting that says mono/poly to Porta time. try a setting around +12. then toggle from fast to slow using the AF1 button. again, not perfect. but much more exact than using the pitchbend or ribbon controler
Edit take 3: you also might try messing with the c settings. go to edit>general(f1>playmode(sf2) and mess with some of the settings there. i found that some settings will make it sound more like a synth, and some make it more natural. you should be able to find a balance in there that works.

Woodchuck Thanks for the info. I will check it out too. It seems there are not many mo brothers who are using slide trombone voices in their music. Too difficult I suppose. Jan |
