Hey!  I know this is a question that has been asked and answered many times but if anyone has the list or can point me to it I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’ve spent 2 hours trying to find a list of compatible USB flash drives for my MOTIF XS on this forum, google, and the yamaha website and now I’m resorting to a post.  Note that the yamaha support page for XS7 has a broken link on this - there is a FAQ on MOTIF XS -

http://www.yamahasynth.com/support/faq/answer/?selFaqId=36&selCatId=3&selModId=341&sKeyword=usb

“A1-24: Check the URL below for USB devices that have been tested for proper operation with the MOTIF XS.
MOTIF XS Compatible USB Device List”

When I click the link it simply takes me back to the support home page again.  So please don’t send me to the yamaha support page, if anyone has the contents of this link or another link please let me know, thanks!!!

I would even buy the flash drive on the motifator store to avoid this question but the one listed is for ES and MO - XS conspicuously missing…

All USB sticks will do, as long as
- they are not re-formatted off FAT32 and as long as
- they don’t contain “managing software” like U3.

I just got a 4GB USB drive from registering with Yamaha, and I had some files on there, but one of the midi file when I try to loaded, it was hung.  Now, my usb drive is not recognized by the motif xs or my computer.  What should I do now ?

If this is caused by removing the stick while writing on it ....
.... you probably lost all data and you should reformat it FAT32.
(it happened to me once).

But let’s not expect the worst.
No access from any computer?

I don’t care about the data, because it’s fairly new and I did not have much on the drive.  But I cannot even format it or do anything…

If you can not access a USB stick from your computer (e.g. XP)
there are 2 options:

1) it’s formatted for LINUX/UNIX/MAC: you should format it on a MAC
2) no access from any computer: return it or throw it away.

Until now I could use ANY USB stick on my synthesizers, except:
1) when formatted FAT32 on an ES
2) when formatted NTFS, which is very rare,
3) when carrying U3 or other ‘helpful’ software.

Hi,
I’d like to join in on this thread. I have an ES 7 and have had a difficult time finding a compatible usb drive. I have an older Lexar 256 mb that works, but that’s no longer made. I’ve tried removing the U3# software from a sandisk drive and formatting it Fat 32 ,but it still doesn’t work. Anybobody have a specific recommendation?
Thanks,
Steve

As stated in my last post: FAT32 won’t work.

2Gb sticks that come formatted FAT16
are still available all over the planet.

Thanks for the info.
I bought a 2GB Verbatim Drive from Office Max which has no password protection for Linux or Mac and it seems to work fine. I only wish this info had been more readily available on this site.
Thanks again,
Steve

We have had identical sku memory sticks where the manufacturer changed the spec so they no longer work on a Motif.

The ONLY way to buy USB devices that are guaranteed to work is on Motifator.com, where we test each batch:

http://shop.motifator.com/index.php/2-gb-flash-drive.html

We even load Voice data on them if you like!

Thanks,
KF
